I have long felt that Bailey's folding bowies are some of the finest, most collectable folding knives in existance. They combine the world of folding knives, with the usually, very different world of high-end forged bowies. Unlike any other knife I am aware of, Bailey's folding bowies give you that forged bowie look and feel, but in a masterfully made folder, a truly wonderful combination IMO.
This folding bowie is still, to this day, the nicest one of Bailey's I have seen, I know it is one of his fanciest as well.
It has a razor sharp, forged bowie clip point blade of 3.5", the top clip is semi-sharp, the blade is made of a 4-bar, twist damascus, that has been beautifully heat blued to an amazing, rich blue color. Bailey's bluing is not salt bath, or nitre, it is good, old fashioned pure heat, and the colors he gets with it are amazing. The bolsters are also multi-bar twist damascus, and also heat blued, though the colors on them range from areas of blue, to purple and some light gold color as well. There is even some simple, but elegant scroll engraving on them! The pin, and liners that seperate the bolsters from the ivory are textured, hammered pure silver.
The handle is some of the nicest, sweetest bark fossil ivory you will ever see, with lots of lines in it, and lots of gorgeous blue/green, I would say that of all the knives I have owned, the ivory on this one is in the top 3, if you think it looks nice in the pictures, wait until you see it in person, it is mind blowing.
This knife is a traditional Bale Lock, which operates just like a lockback, but the lock is released by pressing the bale downwards, and the action on this knife is as smooth as any lockback/bale lock I have ever seen, just amazingly smooth, and, there is absolutely no blade play whatsoever! Even the best, most expensive lockbacks will often have some play, it is something that is almost inherent in a lockback design, but, not on this one, no play, rock solid lockup, so, while this is definitely a very fancy knife, it also happens to be a very strong and capable one, should you decide to use it.
Blade is also centered, another thing that isn't so easy to find in a lockback.
The lockbar along the spine is rounded, and also twist damascus that has been heat colored several colors along its length, another beautiful touch.
This knife feels amazing in the hand, and looks even better, you would be hard pressed to find a nicer example of a folding bowie, and remember, this is a completely forged piece, from a top Mastersmith, it just doesn't get any better folks.
The only reason I am selling this knife is because I came across a great deal on a watch I have been after for a while, and if this knife isn't beautiful and nice enough to sell quickly at the very good price I'm offering it, well, then I guess I just wasn't meant to get this watch.
This folding bowie from Bailey would run you $1500, and with a wait of probably a couple of years. Get this one now, no wait, for $1250 including fully insured, Priority shipping, this is the best deal on one of Bailey's folding bowies you'll ever see, and for one of his best too. I paid $1600 for it a few years ago, and even ay $1600, it's priced at half of what it should be, but at $1250 shipped, it's a raging bargain. (Price typo corrected
)
I cannot take PayPal on this one, sorry, I must insist on a US Postal money order, or, if I know you well, a personal check, I will take a personal check from anybody, but, unless I know you well, I will not ship until it clears, which may take 10 days. So, this is why a US Postal money order is greatly preferred, and makes it easier for us both.
Here are the pictures, first one to email me and say those magic words: "I'll take it" gets this knife.
