This is a bushcraft and hunting knife that I designed. It is designed around the classic Nessmuk style with a 4 1/4" blade. Overall length is 8 1/2". It is *made from 1/8 O1 tool steel. This is a very tough tool steel that takes a fine edge and holds it well. The steel has been heat treated and oil quenched. The heat treat scale has been left on the flats. Finally it received two temper cycles to set the hardness and stabilize the edge. After the heat treat is complete it was saber ground to final profile.. The edge was taken down to about .020 before sharpening which gives a tough and useable cutting geometry. The edge is sharpened at a 25 degree angle.
The handles are made from black locust wood. I hand shaped and sanded the finish for comfort and a positive, secure grip. The handle has a palm swell and a flat spot at the front to help with control and indexing when hands are cold and wet. I used brass pins and lanyard tube to secure the handles to the blades.
The sheath is made from 6-7oz veg tanned leather. It has been dyed to accent the handle material. It was hand stitched and all edges sealed for protection. **
