Balance

Maybe at long last we will finally be the ELU's of the BirGhorka made ever elusive, magic, boomerang khukuri that, similar to Xena's magic Chakram's, will return to, with no harm, the owner each and every time while taking the target off cleanly and swiftly leaveing no gore on the blade.
And most importantly of all will only bring death and destruction to the ones who are truly evil leaveing the innocent and blamleless without injury or fear in the midst of battle.

Well I said it was a dream.;)

Bro,

I'd settle for a UBE that would glow in the dark and when an enemy was near, kinda like......well you know.

You mean your UBE _doesn't_ glow in the dark?.....Hmmmmm....Do flying saucers gots leaf springs?

My UBE glows with Sanu's talent and love for his work - but not in the dark........yet. If I can manage to get abducted I'll ask about the leaf springs. I mean, why else would they be comming here all the time?

...but they've been coming down from the clouds for 10,000 years now. Think they'd get it right after a while. They keep asking stuff like "what's a cho for" and "why do you put those rings there"...no wonder the kamis get grumpy

You know, this thread has got me thinking (sometimes a mistake), a glow-in-the-dark khukuri and scabbard would corner the market, tactical considerations be damned. The Kamis may already have a recipe but have been concerned about the reception over here. "Never fumble around in the dark as a danger to yourself and others trying to find your darned khukuri again!"

A 101 uses..........

Naaaahhh...That tented spine on mine picks up any ambient light, so I can always find it....and most of the kamis recipes involve rice and roasted goat. That would make ME glow in the dark

Nope - Just been slow - trying to get something started. Tsimi is off in the great forest somewhere (or fishing), Blues is running double shifts, Yvsa is here, but not as often as ususal. Must be the start fo the holiday season - Ho Ho Hummmmm.:(

Finn, Wal,

You guy have me thinking (really, really dangerous). How would your steroidal UBE's handle having the handle extended to a total of 10"? Would that be a good thing... or bad?

I think that what I wanted to do back in the summer was get a UBE in a short sword proportion... say 26" overall... maybe 30" at most. At least 10" of this should be the handle...

Would either of your UBE's handle better, or fit the bill as a short sword then???

Okay... no more thinking til tomorrow... I've reached my limit.

Alan

The wood on mine, edge of bolster to edge of buttcap, measures 5.25", and the circumference at the bolster is 6". That is enough for both hands, minus small finger in the back hand, if I choke up on the bolster. I'd need help with a 10" handle, let alone a 20+" blade. With a proportional amount recurve, at that length, you would have the best of a two-handed short sword, axe, and halbred. Close to a recurved scimitar. Spooky thought. Go to bed.

AC,

We were discussing that design last month and are hopping to put a model together during Jan/Feb. IIRC it would be an 18-20" blade attached to a 10-12" handle. The purpose of the long handle was to provide better balance for one handed use and allow two handed use for a more powerful and controlled swing. One of the problems with big heavy knives is that they tend to pick up alot of momentum. Which quickly tires the hand and forearm. Getting two hands on this thing will make it feel very light and agile, and make it safer to use and harder hitting. A real pioneer's sword in the military sense.

N2S, I agree with you on balance. But there seems to be a room for carying system. With its pointy cap on the tip and length as you described, it just gets into carf while walking.

WrongFriend,

I have been stabbed a few times by the sharp drags on these khukuries so I know what you mean about that pointy drag. Perhaps we can look at putting more of a round drag on this one.

Uncle,
Any thoughts?

N2S

I am working on the model for that project N2S is showing, the long HI bowie/short sword. I hope it will balance out the way it should. Sanu did my Bolo design from wood into steel and it came out just about exactly what I was hoping for. If he takes on this too, I am sure the results will be good. I just have to get the model right. The Bolo was a straight design and I think he must like getting to stretch a bit with these designs that are uncoventional.
