My question is: how do you like your knives to be balanced? Blade heavy, handle heavy? Why? I personally like the balance point to be located near the pivot joint on folders. It seems that most people prefer handle heavy knives, thinking that this gives better control for delicate tasks. But new, high-tech handle materials give you many options.

I like the balance point to be right where the index finger lays on the handle for a nice, natural feel.

Depends on the knife, basically the heavier the work I am doing the more I want it balanced out on the blade, the lighter the work the more back towards the handle.

I have to go with Cliff on this one.

I guess I will qualify my post by stating that I do mostly light to medium duty work with my knives. Very little chopping, mostly whittling and slicing, close in work.

For most of my knives, I prefer the balance point near where my index finger is. But this changes to a much more forward point on my large chopping blades.
