Baldric questions - Tuquan Creek

Took the non-weight bearing units to Tuquan creek for a hike yesterday, and missed my Browning Chopper for quickly making walking sticks . Thought that it might work well with a Baldric carrying rig, but wanted to hear feedback, especially if you have a large blade with a frog-based sheath.

Any pics and insight would be appreciated? Here`s my current trio - not sold on the BK2 yet, but it`s getting there. May go for a smaller and lighter bushcrafter instead, and that may be it for a while.

Again, hope you can help. If not, that`s ok too. Here`s some pics of the crik:

Made em walk the plank (getting in the baldric spirit :)):

You can see why my OCD (obsessive chopping disorder) frustration ensued :):

Thanks and kind regards,

Baldrics rule for me from the little 5” FB that lives under my left arm to big heavy things like a hatchet or the #2. I can't be doing with anything flash so no braided bits of string or leather gimp harnesses. I like a simple good wide bit of webbing, not quite as zealous as a seatbelt but heading in that direction. The reasons being: It isn't prone to twisting, it displaces the weight making it seem lighter, and it is flat so it can go under my jacket even with a pack strap over the outside. One thing I do add to a baldric when using with something heavy is a small keeper line. Nothing fancy, just a free end that can be tucked in the belt. That stops a heavy item from being able to swing forward when bending over. It also provides sufficient anchorage that should I trip when doing a tricky something the lump can swing up and lump me one round the head.

Looks like a great time!

I like carrying big blades on a baldric. I rather keep the big blade accessible while walking instead of in or strapped to the back of my pack. I gives me the option of taking it off and hanging it up at a camp site also.

Tony,

You have got some quality gear. That is exactly what I`m looking for - accessibility and traditional good looks.

Would you mind divulging where it is you got that rig?

I got that from Ilbruche, he is a member here, allthough I don't see him around much anymore. He does outstanding work and I have at least 15 sheaths by him.

You can email me at amontero@svenskabeds.com and I will get you his contact info.
