First impression just by looking at the first picture: looks scratched up (kinda how it would look if I owned it

). Then I clicked on the link and saw that there were much better pictures, it look really good!
I'd have to go with $675

It does look a little scratched. My guess...not much more than $550.00. But who knows.

Doubt is an uncomfortable condition,
but certainty is a ridiculous one.

Send it out to Sabo to buff it out and make it look better than new. It really would not surprise me if he could do a better job of finishing a knife then the people at Benchmade. Esp. sense he makes copper jewlery for a living. There is just something really awesome about a PHM with a jewlery finish to it. Check out my web site, I have some custom Sabo finished Batangas Balisong's available for sale. Thanks, JohnR7 www.BalisongKnife.com

You're killin' me Rick! I'll end up spendin' all the Christmas monies on myself!!!

David2584, your wrong on this one.

The black insert balisong is up to $653.

I guessed $650 on this peril balisong, but I thing this one will go $750.

I see our Dawkind is in there; good luck.

It's hard to resist when you have three bowies already.

These one would make a GREATER set.

The more you have the more you want.

I know how it is.

So your saying a refurbished knife done by an outside party is worth more than the original condition? I always thought it was worth more if the knife were kept in condition as is, but I could be wrong. Any other opinions?

Dave, I'm not sure what you are talking about.

Where did I say, "a refurbished knife done by an outside party is worth more than the original condition?"

What knife are you talking about?

A NIB knife is always worth more than one that is used.

Some used knives also go up fast too.

Rick, I see where I lost you. I should have worded it better. I said that refinishing a used knife lowers the value of the knife as opposed to keeping the knife in the condition as it is. In other words, keeping the blade with the scratches, marks, etc. would have more value that say if someone did their own refinish job. (say, refinished the blade)

I thought that you meant that refinishing a used knife by yourself would raise the value as opposed to lowering the value.

Hope this made a little more sense.

Thanks for the kind words JohnR7 but there is a big difference between a HMF and a Custom Balisong!

Yes I can buff out Stainless, but, I would be the last person to chance such a piece to refurbishment! After all...they are the collectables. Man's got to know his limitations!
smile.gif

I do not think it wise to try to redo a custom! If it were mine maybe!? But man o' man...think of the liability!

That was a nice piece though! Someone will be very proud.

Best regards,

Sabo 29

I wouldn't doubt that Sabo could put a better custom finish than BM. Didn't mean to offend you in anyway, sorry.

I was just trying to point out the collector's value.

Used, this one is also not worth maybe $500. Keep in mind that this is synthetic MOP.
The idea of having it "buffed out" is dead wrong. Don't ever do that to a collectible knife. A knowledeable eye will know instantly that the resulting finish is not original. That will call everthing about the knife into question. It doesn't matter who can do a "better" finish. What matters is what is original. I can make a better painting than Andy Warhol, IMHO, but his is probably worth more than mine.

The last one that went for just shy of a grand was a mistake by the buyer and I intend to ignore it. Sometimes, when a datapoint just does not fit, you ignore it. This knife already has gone over what I would pay for it. In the past, my rule has been only one holder of the "Are you insane?" trophy at a time, but I may have to make an exception here.

To use the phrase that is all the rage these days, I think we're seeing some "irrational exuberance" here. There are times when it's best to sit on your check book and wait for a better knife to come along.

Hey Rgray, earlier you said to Dawkind that "the more you have the more you want". There's a word for that and it's called GREED!

IMHO, I don't think I'm greedy for wanting to expand my collection; that's what collecting is all about! If I'm in a position to add to my collection, I will.....I've never bought and sold knives to make money but to 'change faces in the drawer'. I'm sorry if there are any hard feelings when the USPS man drops the Express Mail packages off and I post pictures for everyone to enjoy but like my daddy told me," Those who got get and those who aint got get got".
