Bali Lube

A couple of hours after I got my 42 all of the hinge areas were squeaking, I called up the local gun shop to see what lubes that they had. I found stuff called "Tetra Gun Oil", this stuff works great and the 42 is super silent, the only thing bad with it is it smells like rotting dog crap (a very, very, bad smell), but only if you hold it up to your nose and take a whiff. Good stuff and I'll see how long it'll last.

Tetra Gun is great, second only to Militec-1. I have used it for years and find it really good. This is also more of a "surface treatment" product than a simple oil. Shake the bottle well as it actually contains little specks of solid teflon. As you work your balisong, that teflon gets ground into the surfaces and eventually you've got essentially a teflon-coated joint. It sort of sounds like snakeoil, but it does work and just gets better for the first four to six applications.

Good Stuff.

Like so many people after receiving my BM42 it not only squeaked but one handle was rather stiff. After loosening the handle I placed an order for Militec-1. This stuff is great! For every one who owns a balisong I recommend Militec-1. It makes my 42 work better than when I first got it! And it only took about a week to arrive! Just thought I would add my praise to this great stuff!

There's been quite number of reports of tight handles out-of-the-box. I suspect that the tool at Benchmade got a bit miscalibrated. Oh well, just loosen up a bit.
