I see that they are adding a few other forums to the for sale area. Do you think it would be possible to get a Balisong For Sale Forum? The only knives I'm interested in buying are baliosngs. When I go to the for sale forum I usually have to look through 100's of other posts just to find one balisong, sometimes I miss it.

I know there aren't alot of balisongs that come up for sale out there, but since I'm planning on becoming a premium member do you think it would be appropriate to ask?

Sincerely,

I think you already answered your own question really. I don't think there are enough "out there" being sold to warrant a Forum dedicated to them.

Think about what you are saying. You missed one, so you want a forum where you do not have to look through multiple posts. If we applied that to everyone, this place would have about 50 For Sale/Trade Forums.

Just look carefully, I have missed things as well. It happens.

Hopefully, in the future, there will be quite a few different Manufacturers making them and that will make for a more interesting secondary market.

Look for the Discontinued Benchmades to drop in price (excellent) soon...or, people might hang on to them forever.

I have a Benchmade Model 48 on the way, it has been sitting in a Guy's Safe for the better part of the last decade. :D

I plan on selling off a piece from time to time myself.

My point exactly. If Sniperboy is the only one selling today it would be great not to dig through 100 other threads just to find out that there aren't any others. Also I think this could add to the value of the for sale forum. Your knife would get better coverage from people looking for that exact type.

Folllow Ebay for example. My knife could show up in a general knife category, then a folding knife category, then a balisong category, then a specific brand category.

This idea could pay for itself when some people choose to just pay per item instead of the $30 per year.

Yes, that is the point, the only person in there on most days would be Sniperboy, it makes no sense with such a limited market to have a Forum dedicated to this genre of knives. Therefore, by default, on most days, the Forum would be dedicated to Sniperboy and possibly one or two more people at the most.

Look at the Forum you enjoy. Look at the massive amount of information just contained in this Forum alone. Don't look at the $30.00 or whatever Fee it will end up being as a Fee to only sell knives. The basic idea is to support a Community that you like being a part of.

I have Lobbied Kevin (Spark) to make all Members pay $20.00 per year for Membership, not just to post knives for sale, but to post period.

This site costs alot of money to keep afloat, but not only that, it is a reliable site and it is fast and User Friendly.

This circles back to the original question, why clutter up the Forums with yet another Forum geared towards Specificity? Especially when the specific type of knife, The Balisong, is a very limited knife form when compared to the vast amount of others...

Well, we could also post links here to help each other out when new balis become available. Suspects do it at the Emerson forum.
The only problem that I see with that is there is so much competition to buy good balis, not many want to risk losing out enough to bird dog a deal.

On Saturday I read in the For Sale Production Folders Forum that Spark stated

Membership costs will be $30 per year for Individuals, and will have several advantages over non paying members. These will include additional features, such as private messaging, buddy lists, and more. This cost breaks down to a measley $2.50 per month, nothing that will strain any wallets.

IMHO I think most of that $30.00 is going to go toward someone selling. I don't see how adding one link is going to clutter up the forum that much compared to that lllllooonnnggg post we just had where we were having religion PUSHED on us here in the balisong forum.

So, in other words, you want one forum dedicated to Balisong Knives which 5 or 6 days out of the week will have Sniperboy posting in it...and possibly 1 or 2 days where someone else will post a Bear, Jag or 42 out there?

That's absurd man. You want a forum that is going to have a half dozen posts in it a week on average, if that.

And no one necessarily "pushed" religion down your throat, you clicked on the link. It's alot like The Howard Stern Show, if you hear something that offends you, instead of calling the FCC as if someone forced you to listen, simply don't listen to that station.

No one twisted your arm to go in there, especially after it got rolling hot and heavy, you chose to do so.

On average I usually notice about 10 or so Benchmade balisongs. THIS is not an exact number or is it this high every week this is just an average.

My idea is only a suggestion. I am not trying to pass a new tax law:D .

Trust me when I say this, I wish there was such a booming market in these knives that we needed a separate forum for their sale/trade. I think that would be great.

I just don't think it is "there" right now. With the Monarch, Tachyon, BM42, 43 and 47, possibly a Spyderco Balisong as well...who knows?

Hmmm, a lot of ideas in this thread ... FWIW, here's my humble opinion:

I would like to see a dedicated "Balisong For Sale" forum. The autos have one of their own, and it doesn't bother me if there are only a few sellers/posters, especially if they are paying for the privilege. I am also unmoved by the threat of 50+ forums ... that's what computers are for, to allow all those forums & keep track of that stuff so I don't have to slog thru what I'm not interested in ...

I'd pay to support the forums, even tho I don't plan to sell.

I personally am tired of folks violating the forum rule(s) ... why should I have to remember which threads to avoid? How 'bout instead those in violation curtail their inappropriate behavior?

The nature of Free Speech is such that sometimes things go off-topic, but the root issue was the place of the Balisong, etc.

Trust me, you don't want the Moderation you are talking about, you would not like the format very much. You can choose to believe that or not, but I've seen some heavy-handed Moderators. People think I am a hardass about some things, no one here has seen "hardass" until a forum puts up a Zero Tolerance Policy to Content of Threads...

As for the suggestion of a Balisong Forum, if you think the Fee you will pay for Free Membership is going to somehow make a difference...well...ask Kevin and see...

There are alot more Auto Manufacturers and various models than there are Balisongs, so the analogy is poor. Microtech alone has made more Switchblade Models since they came on the scene in 1994 than Benchmade has since 1989.

And I'm sorry, but a dumptruck load of Jaguars and Chinese Crappers along with the Bears simply don't warrant a Forum of their own.

Like I said, if the Balisong has a Second Coming, as I hope it does, that would be cool. But to argue that they need something that is going to have a few posts per week is just...a non-issue.

AbnAirCav, We're thinking alike. I prefer the computer doing the work and not myself.

Now that other thread didn't have any balisong content if I recall. The author asked how do you handle gangs? Not a bad question, but it didn't have anything to do with balisongs. As far as the forum rules being broken, the thread was closed wasn't it?
