Man - o - Man, has this place become an uptight place. Just funnin' with you while trying to understand Balisong addictions that some of you have. Yes, everyone has their own tastes and there is nothing wrong with that. There is also nothing wrong with having sport on a subject while trying to understand at the same time....

...just looking for reasons why Balisongs are liked by others with some fun thrown in. At least I meant it to be a little fun too.
</font>

You keep saying how you just wanted to have a little fun. You say it as if it's ok to openly BASH something that many people enjoy. By trashing the balisong and asking how people can be so silly as to like something so ugly and non-functional, you're personally attacking me, and anyone else who takes it seriously. You're saying that we must be of a lower intellegence than yourself because we don't see the "obvious" downfalls of the bali. Not to mention that whenever you're given good answers to you "questions", you just repeat the fact that you don't get it. That you just don't understand why we like them so much. Well, maybe that, in itself, should answer your question.... YOU JUST DON'T GET IT!!

And I wouldn't call any of this "fun".

Ooooh, am I sorry I am so late.

Mark, I know what you mean about the thread. This is one of those threads that can be a whole lot of fun. Balisongs are favorites of many people for a HUGE number of reasons, and many people like them for TOTALLY DIFFERENT reasons. The responses you can get on a thread like this can range from frightening to enlightening, provided the thread is looked upon in the proper manner.

Sorry to see it go south so quickly.

But to get back on track, I have 3 balis that I keep here at work. I play with them for maybe an hour a week tops. They hit the ground pretty hard now and then, but big deal. I also use them for cutting things. Here is why I like having them around.

> Learning a new skill is fun to me. So I suck at it now... big deal. I derive great pleasure from watching my skills improve in some endeavor. A balisong is perfect for that.

> I like the fact that when I lock it open, it is gonna STAY that way. No ands, ifs or buts about it, it is open until I close it.

> Since I quit smoking, I find it useful to occupy my hands and mind with some frivolous distraction. Enter the balisong.

> I never get into a Zen sort of thing with a bali, like Pulsar mentioned above (neat concept though), but if you are trying to noodle your way through a problem, flipping a bali can keep out other distractions long enough for you to focus on a solution.

I saw this thread as a fun way to open a can of worms too. Whether or not the can of worms goes bad is up to the individuals who partake of it. Now lets get back to finding some good reasons to have a balisong around.

South it went, but now I see why some like Balisong type knives. Still, they are not for me. Good thing there are sooooo many different types of knives out there, ugly or not!

Yeh, I once asked what all the fuss was with the balisong. Same with a traditional folded steel Katana... so what? I have seen one in the Leeds armoury, now I KNOW what beauty is.

Look at a BM 42a, the one in anodized Ti. Flip it, begin to learn the dedication, skill and courage of using this martial arts knife. Once you have spent a couple of weeks with her, you will understand or you have no soul.

Ugly, smugly. It is a simple design, perfection in form, art and function.

Just give me a model with a better steel and I will be in Hog heaven!

Rant over.

You're a troll. It is the mark of a troll to make inflammatory posts deliberately seeking a reaction. You knew what you were doing when you insulted something enjoyed by many people on this forum.

Don't insult our intelligence by claiming you just don't understand why everyone's so bent out of shape. No matter how much you say you're "just trying to have some fun with it," you know damned well you're trolling.

Mark,

I have really tried to understand what makes you tick. I gave up trying after you pulled that hatchet job on Paracelcus. You seem like a nice enough guy who is still trying to find out who he is, but I think you need to look into why a lot of your threads end up this way. Have you ever thought that it is YOU and not us? Your threads seem to always have an attention grabbing title that is controversial or designed to bring emotion in people. Ones like your religion post, or your "this is my final post" post, or your, "I'm changing my name" post, or your "I'm giving up knives" post, etc... Those aren't exact titles, but you get the idea. Now we have this post. Again, for some reason, all of US don't get what you are trying to do, so WE are the ones who are uptight. Then, when someone calls you on it, you storm off and take your toys and go home. This is exactly what Wayne, aka "The General" does. Says controversial stuff, and then when he is called on it, says that we misunderstood him or don't have a sense of humor. He even had the classic "I'm leaving" post. Albeit, he stated he would be back. Guess what? He never left. But he did get a few people to express some emotion. I am saying this with the best of intentions. You both need to look inside and see why YOU bring this on yourselves, and why YOU feel the need for negative attention that allows you to play the victim role.

Fine then ..... this TROLL as you put it is gone from here .... who needs a place like this anymore that has turned into what it is now from what it used to be. Believe me, I tried coming back here after being gone for awhile because of what is or has been transpiring here lately, but it's not the old Bladeforums I used to know. How times have changed! You older bladeforums members and ones that have left bladeforums, know what I mean!

Good Luck To All Of You!

I have patiently resisted posting to this, although I responded over in the other forum. You act just like a bitch. Look at your words, I quoted you so you can't go back and delete them you sniveling toadsnatch.

You "Older Bladeforums Members?" I've been here since almost the beginning...going all the way back to when Mike Turber Moderated the General Forum at KNIFEforums.Com

And personally, we NEVER had folks like YOU that lasted. You were immediately yanked up.

What imaginary playfriends are you talking about when you speak of "Older Members" of this place?

Another figment of your inflammatory imagination.

The "Old Bladeforums" that you "knew" never existed.

Man, you might not be a fruit, but you hang out in the orchard.

This is incredible!!! We must have been posting at the same time but I got mine in first. Did I call it or what??? Are you gone for good this time or just until the tantrum wears off? You really do act like a 2 year old and have no business being on an adult forum. Please stay away for good as your antics have obviously been figured out for quite some time.

Generally, you should only say that when the point(s) you've made are valid and proven. Not when you're too stubborn and ignorant to realize you're wrong.

Yuck! Eewwww! Ick! Those terrible, rotten, ugly, Balisongs!

They open really really fast, they close really fast, they have lockup that's the equal of a fixed blade when in the open position, usually very clean and graceful lines, and a huge variety of blade geometry from maker to maker.

What's to like?
rolleyes.gif

I used to have a couple fairly nice Balis long ago, the only one I have now is a POS. Handle fit is horrible, but a decent blade with good lines and takes a good edge. I've GOTTA get one of the new BMs though!
