I am willing to forge some ball bearings to rough shape, normalize and anneal them if anyone is interested in finishing up a bowie of their own. Your blank can easily be ground, filed, drilled, heat treated (triple because they are 52100) and finished into a sweet bowie with about a 7" blade. You can put any guard and handle combinations you wish to make it truly "one of a kind"
If you have a forge they can easily be reforged to final shape but 95% of the hard forging is done for you.

I can include my heat treating instructions with each blank sold.

Something roughly like the "step 3" in your progression pic in your thread in the gallery forum next door.

Any chance on something like that?

Unless somebody knows where I can find small order 52100 flat stock :)

Deker, Oh I got ya. You need 52100 bar stock? I can do that. In fact it is so much easier I could charge less. One ball stretched into bar stock: $20 just tell me how wide and thickness.:)
 
Hi Bruce,

Would you be interested in making a blade that's rough ground like the blade in your gallery picture and hardened? I don't have facilities for hardening, but am willing to finish sand and fit a handle/guard.

Dam that is a good idea. :thumbup: Sometimes I feel like a forge whore myself. I just get off pounding hot steel.

I, too, am interested in some forged bar stock. What kind of yield to you get out of one ball? What thickness and sizes can you make?
