ball bearings in folders

been wondering if the bearings actually roll when the pivot is tight enough for no blade play or if it just scrapes on the blade when it opens
 
Captive or ikbs? I don't know either way but I've never seen uneven wear on captive bearings. I have less experience with ikbs. I have never made a folder, my only experience is with production knives. I would imagine that Spyderco and KAI have the design nailed. My smoothest knife ever was a flipper custom with ikbs. If those weren't spinning I'd be shocked.
 
omega would you prefer ikbs over caged bearings ? since ikbs has a maintenance disadvantage
 
Captive just for the reason you mentioned. I don't mind keeping track of small parts but haven't seen a distinctive advantage over captive. If I was actually making the knives it would also be captive. No brainer. Just better technology from my point of view. I wouldn't oil either, just a quick wipe down with alcohol/similar.
