Hi Folks this is one of my knives for the up coming ACE Show. I wanted to see what you thought of what I did with the amber stag. I know the amber stag can look great when it is left Black but there is such warm color just under that black skin I thought I would just hit the top's off the high spot's and buff them. I spent a entire day just making the guard for this knife I have only been doing one face knife a year but this year I will be doing two as one of our forum mates has ordered one.ballff5.jpgballff4.jpgballff3.jpgball-f-f2.jpgball-f-f.jpg

Apropos of my comment in another thread.....
I can't wait to hold this one in my hand at the show!

Stag is such an individualized material that I think each piece requires its own treatment, depending on the knife, the maker etc. I myself LIKE what you've done with that stag, and the face is a nice touch as well

Thanks Bill I really need to work on my photo skills I will have a better shot of this knife after the show see you soon.

WOW! Very nice. Great blade profile and of course, the damascus looks fantastic; I really like the guard as well. Can't wait to see it in person!

argh! Beautiful, flowing knife Dave. Makes it all the harder on me that I won't be joining you in Seattle later this month. Bad timing for me this time around. Bill, knowing you'll be at ACE makes it suck all the more that I can't attend, I'd like to meet you one day.

Lorien

feeling is mutual - there a bunch of you guys from "far away" that I hope to meet...if you are ever in CT...or even NYC let me know!!!

Bill

Albert will see you soon Lorien sorry you wont make it this year maybe 2014 as the ACE show is going to be held every other year.

David, this is another beauty for you. I like everything about it from the point to the face on the pommel. You really have a knack for the face carvings. Have a great ACE Show.
You coming down to Eugene this time? Hope to see ya there again.

Just a gorgeous knife Dave - and that stag is absolutely delicious. If this is the process you were talking about for our project, then 'yes, please'.

Roger

Looks great Dave. I like your feather damascus very much, the guard and carving are nice details. The stag looks good as is, but I would even like it more if you sanded the high spots a bit to bring out that "popcorn" look.

Peter

Love this knife Dave.
I prefer for stag to have the red-amber highlights brought out.
Sorry can't make ACE, will get out there some day though.

the every other year thing makes a lot of sense.
My wife just today gave me her thumbs up for Blade this year, which is by no means a guarantee, but...will you be there this year?

Dave,

That's the way I like to see amber stag look, too, and that's a really nice example.

The day on the ball guard was well spent! Gives the knife a unique look, but still very traditional to go with the butt-cap carving.

This is a fantastic Lisch, and that's saying a lot right there,

John

Beautiful knife Dave. That ball guard was well worth the day that you spent on it.
Erin

Thank you all. Roger yes this is what I was talking about this piece is very much like the piece I have for your project I was hoping you would like it as I think it looks good done like this. Bruce and Mike I will be at OKCA show and yes this knife will be there. It just wont be for sale. Lorien I hope you do make blade I will by you a beer in the pit if you do and there is an off chance that I could use a room mate. John and kevin thank you I have used the color in the amber stag very sparingly I think I will be a bit more free with it if the two of you guys like it.
