What weight ball peen hammer do you use for peening a puukko hidden tang?

I have a little baby one that works real good for peening. I have an even smaller one that is good for pins.

Only thing I would tell you JT is polish the ball side. It will make the metal spread easier!

When driving pins out of things, many light taps tends to mushroom the pin head, so a few strong blows is more effective at removing a pin.

I've always transferred that experience to peening, where you want that deformation. So a am all hammer, lots of light taps and patience.

A good set is a 2oz, 4oz, 8oz and 16oz. That will do most any peening task.

My smallest is around 1/4oz. Somewhere, I have a monster 4# ball peen.

Mine is better Most likely it is 52100 steel , from auto .....ball joint
