Ball Peen hawk

Kentucky,
I might not be the person to ask with my limited experience-
Fit and finish are excellent- I stained mine.
I like the weight, the short handle indexes well in my hand. The rounding end moves metal well over the horn. The head attaching glue seems to provide some shock absorption. I'm not swinging it every day- set up a forge at a friends farm that I'm lucky if I get to every other weekend.
"Rounding" hammers aren't something I have any experience with before this one- they may all be close. I watched the videos Mr. Steve of Coal Creek Forge posted on you-tube where he talked a little about his hammer and it stuck in my mind.
I ordered this one while holding an ice pack on my face- kind of a "life’s too short to work with crap tools" moment.
I have some 4140 1X1 that I'm going to make into slit and drift hawks soon- let you know how I make out.
Take Care

Great looking hawk man, I wish I could get a better forge together and a coal supplier, this Barbecue forge ain't very good.

Thanks, Ive been smithing a long time but Ive never used a blu hammer so you know more about that than me :D I can give you a little hint or two on the slit and drfit. We have used 1" x 1" a lot in the past. Scratch out your line on both sides where your going to slit. Then mark it good and deep with a cold chisel. That way when you start hot you have a good starting point already mapped out. Slit half way thru one side then thru the other. You eye will always be straight that way ;)
