Can anyone tell me what is the legal definition of a ballistic knife and are there any collectors.

Just wondering.

Are you talking about the knives that fire out the blade using a cartridge ?

Ooh! "Ballistic knife" threads are always entertaining!

The aforementioned are unlawful to possess under both State and Federal Statutes. I would advise avoiding them, period.

Yeah they're federally banned. For good reason, imo...they don't have utility value like a regular auto does

Why not try one of these

I think the most popular "ballistic knife" would have to be the spetznaz ballistic knife supposedly carried by them. I've seen it feature in some shows before so that's probably the best known example. Cool concept but I have no idea how reliable or effective they are. I'd be very curious to see how far the blade can fly staying stable in air as well as how fast it goes and how much flesh it can penetrate

About 75 feet and still stick, but the velocity drops off fast.

I remember hearing they could cause damage to the operator if not holding it properly. I'd imagine discharging a powerful coiled spring could ruin your day if you didn't have two hands on it.

Big deal. It's just a shooting knife. It needs to be treated like a gun. The Gov teats them like they are as dangerous as a stick of dynamite. When are we ever going to get the stupid laws off the books.

A ballistic knife is a knife with a detachable blade that can be ejected to a distance of several meters by pressing a trigger or operating a lever or switch on the handle.
