Baltic/Austrian Goosewing Hewing Axe.

That's it! Thanks so much for the quick response. Any idea of the age of the axe in the photo? TA

The distinctive features of the picture gives it away that it's from the collection of Christian Peglow and you can find it on the Hobel & Axt website. Who knows how old the axe is but Ochsenkopf brand is still on the market and popular with the carpenters in Germany as a utilitarian axe.

Yes, I see now that it's an ox head in the logo, not a ram's head. My axe is virtually identical to the one pictured. With the info Steve T. provided, I've searched long and hard for more info about dating my GW broad axe by either the style or the logo. I think that the more recent Ox Head tools have a solid line making up the circle in the logo rather than the dotted circle on the one pictured (which is like mine). Anybody know of a reference for the history of Ox Head logos?

BTW, I did search Christian Peglow and the Hobel & Axt website, but I couldn't find anything more than the photo. But there was sure a lot of eye candy at that web site! I had a ball looking around. Thanks, Ernest, for the lead. T-A
