I got the E-nep finished. I like it now but just wasn't to excited about it while I was putting it together. The wrought iron for the fittings came from the foundation wall. The blade is 9 5/8" long and overall its 15". This is the one out of rebar. Not much money for materials in this knife. Maybe 50c worth of epoxy.

That turned out nice Ray. It's a great feeling to turn a few pennies worth of material into a valuable piece of art.

I like this one Raymond! It's not the materials that makes the knife, it's the maker that puts feeling into it. I think you could probably make one out of cactus and it'd come out great.

nicely done Ray, I've used many many tons of rebar in my construction days but none that ever looked like that.

That looks fantastic. I know E-Neps are in at the moment:D ...but to me, it could also pass as a Seax.

WOW Ray! That's really something! How's that Bamboo to work with? -Matt-

The bamboo is one of the easier materials to work with. Main thing you need to do is make sure it is dried out and seasoned. There is like a skin that should be removed but it comes off fairly easy with sanding.

Thanks Ray. I had considered trying to work up a smaller knife with it, but didn't know how it works..ie splintering etc. -Matt-

Thats for sure  I haven't seen a bad one yet. You ever made a bad one Ray :) Tell me a little more about the properties of the rebar, ie. edge holding ability, ~ % C. (as far as you know), how it works, etc. Thanks

David, There have been several knives that don't make it out of the shop. You only see the good ones. As far as the rebar goes I would guess it has .5% carbon. I have seen speck sheets on some of the rebar and they have the carbon at .3%. I believe there also guessing. It get way to hard for .3% carbon. The rebar I have is stuff I've had for 12 years. Its all rebar that would have gotten tossed on jobs that I worked but ended up in the back of my truck. I have no idea of what the rebar is like on construction jobs now and its also going to very where ever you are. The rebar I use is 60 grade. The guys that have used the rebar knives are shocked at how well they hold an edge and there also easy to sharpen. I can't tell any difference in forging the rebar compared to spring steels. I just wish it would come flat. Here's one from 96 when I used to polish everything: http://www.bladegallery.com/shopexd.asp?id=3093&websess=59169450466485
