I made some bamboo scales for my Tenacious several years ago. The stock was about 5/16" thick. I shaped the scales to be more rounded and ergonomic with a palm swell. The scales all said and done were about a little less than 1/4" at the thickest point. Made it a little bulky in the pocket, but sure felt good in the hand. Used Watco Danish oil to finish it. I got a box of bamboo flooring from Costco, so I have plenty to work with and don't have to worry much about messing up a set of scales.
Made a kitchen knife that I gave away. I used bamboo for the handle, used two very thin coats of water based polyureathane varnish on it. I was it the other day and the poly ureathane has held up very well.
I did notice that it sounded different when the blade is deployed and the lock clicks into place.
A friend of mine gave me some osage orange scraps for knife scales, so the Tenacious now has osage orange scales.
