Hey there-

Can somebody tell me what they think is the best band saw blade and the place to get it?

I'm running a little Jet 64.5" X 0.5" metal cutting saw, similar to what most guys have.

Lenox seem to be the best so far but have cost me on average $27-30.

I was told to order them from E.C. Blackstone but I can never get ahold of anyone there!

Does anybody know of a better blade or supplier ???

BTW- I met Gary Gouker up in Sitka, AK and back when he made knives he used an old table saw set up with an old cut-off wheel and a 3 HP motor to profile blades. It ate through ATS-34 and 440V like butter, but I'd hate to slip with that thing! my fingers are a little on the soft side compared to steel. "Hence pushsticks."

Thanks

I have a saw (Grizzly) that uses the same size blade. In the past I have been using bi-metal blades with 18 tpi. What do you guys use? I thought that Cruwear was tough until I cut some 440V!

i'm probably gonna switch from lenox bi-metal to lenox tungsten carbide abrasive blade, they probably cut quicker.

yikes...how much do those carbide grit bandsaw blades cost???? i bet a lot...i use bi metal from do-all..they are the best blades ive ever seen..they have offices all over..get mine from long beach...call them up and tell them what you are cutting and they will tell you whats best..they have about 4 different premium kinds...also... if you think 440V is tough...it grinds like butter compared to 420V!!!!!no kidding

I still recommend E.C. Blackstone, 800-866-6241.

I did an order last week and got them in a couple days. 64 1/2" - Diemaster 14 TPI and 18 TPI and Matrix II in 24 TPI. $13.81 ea and these are top quality bi metal blades.

The 24 TPI work great on thin titanium. They are .020 thick and have good flex.

I just priced the Lennox bi-metal vs. the Lennox tungsten carbide grit blade (same thickness and width, roughly the same kerf). The bi-metal for my saw from my local supplier was $35. The tungsten carbide was $140. This may have been effected somewhat by the fact that the bi-metal material is a stock item for them and the tungten garbide grit would have to be ordered. I'd be interested in anyone who has actually compared the two.

are you talking about the one with tungsten carbide teeth, or abrasive instead of teeth? how big is your bandsaw blade?

magnum .44,

This is the carbide grit blade. I forget the Lennox designation for it. The blade length is 105". I know their price is probably high, but I needed a place to start in figuring out whether it made any sense to consider these blades.

i think i'm gonna raise my blade speed to 200fpm, or 150, and switch over to carbide grit, my price will be a little cheaper, not much. do these blades cut through knife steels faster, is it good to have mist coolant of flood coolant? which is better? i have it at 67fpm, and it's frustrating since i can cut with the hacksaw faster. i know i'm gonna use stikwax coolant, more of a friction reducer. one of my dad's machinist buddies told him it's good stuff.
