Hey all,
Due to the amount of orders I'm getting, I need to speed up my work and was wanting to purchase a metal cutting band saw. Unfortunately, I'm unable to find a variable speed, slow enough to cut through steel, unless I want to spend $2000 on an industrial one. Does anybody have any idea where to get these from or if I could put a variable switch on any band saw.

And how slow does the speed need to be to cut through, without burning the teeth off.

Your help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Chris

The cheap options are the Harbor Freight 4x6 and the DeWalt Portaband mounted upright.

I don't have one but I seen alot of makers John white, John Fitch and others
useing a milwalkee portaband mounted on a base, with a table on it.

Chris, you have a giant Grizzly store right there in Springfield. They sell metal cutting band saws for a lot less than $2000, I have a couple and they are a step or two above the cheaper imports. Go have a look.

Thanks Don, I was there today, and they range from $1200 to $3000. But I think I'm going to go with a horizontal and vertical band saw there, then make a table for it. They got one there for around $400.

Thanks for your feedback.

check your local home depo, i just got a rigid bandsaw and rigid drill press for $150 bucks a piece new, i guess they were just clearing them, and if one has it the other depos have to match the prices, now that i think about it i should have bought a few an then sell them!!!

I have the wilton in my shop bought it from enco

one you manually change the belts for what speed you need
