When you say it has the ability to slow down to cut metal, what sort of FPM do you mean? I only say that cause I have a 14" wood saw that I am currently modding. Out of the box the slowest it goes is almost 600fpm which is still a little too fast. A lot of guys get the HF metal cutting saw, mount it vertical and make a worktable for it.

Gixxer,

now take all this with a grain of salt cause i dont have a clue what i am doing. but i downloaded the manual to the saw i will be using and it gave me these speeds for cutting metal. 40, 60, 85, 115, 160, 220, 335 fpm. i'm assuming FPM stands for feet per minute but i am new to all this.

If that is the case then 40fpm will definately work on steel! Do you have this saw in your posession already?

gixxer,

kind of have it. its my father in laws and its just right down the block so its there i havent done anything with it yet. i need to get a metal blade for it. and i am just getting started and its really cold here i'm just not in a hurry till spring.

i've used the saw before messing around with wood though.

i will probably buy from there Gixxer. they seems good and reasonably priced.

hey nathan what is the preferred speed for a band saw?

nathan,
that is an awsome chart! thanks. its amazing how some of this stuff is really making sense and other stuff is like mud!

thanks again
