Any suggestions about the type of bandana I should get for a BOB? Where can I get one from?

What type of material should it be? Size?
Can I make one myself?

I use the old kind..they work great for everything.they come in red, blue and green........here in the states they come in a 2 pack for about 2.50

My recommendation is a cotton bandana in the 24"x24" up to 30"x30" size range, which means that you'll likely be making it yourself. It's pretty easily done on any sewing machine. I like cotton for its water absorbancy and comfort. Makes it absorb sweat as a brow band when hiking and hold soapy water for washing pots & dishes, body parts, gear, whatever.

I like the large size because the usual ones I find in the stores (20"x20" or a bit bigger) are just a bit too small for tying around my head to soak with water to make a hiking "air conditioner for my head". They're too short as a sun drape when plopped on my head under a tennis visor to give me the size of coverage on my neck & shoulders that I prefer. I also suspect they'd be too small to make the folded-into-a-triangle arm sling shown in many first aid books.

Hence, I say make yer own and make it a big 'un. Also, since you are just making a big square of light cotton fabric (not that it has to be square), you can choose from a huge selection of patterns. You may have seen the Rebel flag, Harley-Davidson, camo, etc do-rags that are ubiquitous. I'm toying with the idea of making a fake burnoose out of some Solarveil fabric I got on sale at their website and some nylon taping to tie it in place. However, it's not cotton and not even a very solidly woven material, more like gauze, so it won't make even a minimal bandana. www.solarveil.com

Military surplus triangular bandages. Available, in tan, o.d green. Wash several times before using ( softens them up). Do not use fabric softner, they're not as absorbent if you do

I'll second the opinion about Jinglebobs'. 3 silk and 2 cotton, and all are exceptional. I think they are 35 X 35. Also, the silk is a finer weave than the cotton, giving better filtering ability.

Try http://bladerigger.com/main.html & click the link for the "Bandando." Sorry there's no direct link.

Another, cheaper, alternative: http://shomer-tec.com/item.cfm?Action=Search&variable=314 , but CoolMax is rather stretchy, though, & probably unsuitable for combative use. There's also no indication whether the pocket is sealed with anything, although glue-on Velcro is freely available...
