Hi, i want to ask you guys what's the point of a bandana? Alot of guys that are survivaling have a bandana? and here are also few people that are wearing a bandana when they go on a hike, so tell me, what's the point?

Bye Leon

Its one on those multi purpose items, can be used from anything like an ass rag to wound closure material.

dont forget filtering sediment out of drinking water, using it to gather dew for drinking, flag for signaling, the list goes on and on. not a bad idea to carry a couple. Blaze orange and OD could be good choices. Plus you can get them with First aid tips and survival tips printed on them. (really you should know some of that stuff before you get there though!)

Just not in that order. ;)

I carry one everyday, it's light, small and comes in handy for all kinds of stuff.

Men used to carry handkerchiefs, but our generation (as well as subsequent generations) have abandoned this tradition. I'm not keen on putting my "nose-blowings" back in my pocket, but a simple bandana is incredibly useful.

The best mosquito repeller made! You learn in the jungle that DEET and all those fancy sprays don't work too well, so slapping a bandana works wonders.

oke, thanks! I go looking for a bandana right away! does it need to have a specific shape? ?

Cause Dave cantaberry uses one....gowad, everyone knows that. lol
its just good multi functioning tool...head sunray repelent, water filtration in a pinch, circulation stopper, wash cloth ...on and on and jeebus. you think it and there you go.

About a month ago I picked up 2 Bandanas, a green one and a Wood land Camo one. I keep the camo one in my day bag and have the green one in my back pocket. They have come in handing when I'm sanding leather or in the desert to keep dust out of my nose and mouth, kept me warm on a cool morning and wipe sweat away on hot days. Improvised sling is something we used them for in Scouts. I'm glad I spent the $2 each on them and am thinking of buying a few more in orange and yellow for visibility reasons.

I posted this bandana story before - my bandana practically saved my vacation :D

I was on a long walk on the beach in the Caribbean with my wife, dipping in the ocean to cool off along the way, and, as it tends to do, the salt water started chaffing the sh*t out of my thighs something bad.

All I had was my bathing suit and a bandana - I wound up tying the bandana around one of my thighs and it worked like a charm, saving me a ton of uncomfort and pain. We finished our walk and all was well in the land of the trailwolf :D

Not really what I ever expected to use a bandana for, but it really saved the day.

Generally they are 22" square (which means they measure 21 1/2 " square)
If you look around you can find larger ones, bigger is ALMOST always better.

Good info. I've found the "handkerchief" bandanas sold at the big box stores in the pack aren't big enough for anything! Can't even wear them on your head that well.

Sorry to highjack, but anyone know where Dave Canterbury is going? He can't do youtube vids anymore. Getting his own series?

What isnt the point of a bandanna!!!!!

Too many things to list. Dust mask, sun sheild, sweatband, bug repellant, sediment filter, coffee filter, sling, pressure bandage, blindfold(;))

many many more.... To small and cheap not to invest. I carry one, or a BUFF( like a recon wrap) 24/7

Always useful for wiping the gore off your blade following a battle with a grizzly, or for re-attaching limbs, etc.

I have carried a bandana in one back pocket and a hanky in the other for years now.
Even when I dress up and wear a sport coat, one goes into my inside coat pocket and a hanky in the other.

There are times when you need a rag to clean your hands with while eating (lack of paper napkins) or you need to wipe/clean something off and there is no rag handy and they are great when cooking with cast iron in the house.

Also all the uses mentioned above. :)

I have a similar story!! I was at a beach in Florida swimming around in my board shorts when I noticed a little pain and discomfort on my.....ahem....boss! Anyway I checked to make sure it wasn't a jellyfish or something and concluded it was my....boss....rubbing against my shorts and the friction it generated. A quick wrap with my bandana and the problem was solved. I then sold said banana bandanna wrap to a member on the forum:D
