Which knife would be good to carry while hiking at state parks or nature trails, the bandicoot or camp tramp?

What are the uses? Will there be any chopping involved?

For general utility, the 'coot is the way to go. Sweet little blade :D

Thanks for your response Andrew. I mainly go hiking and camping at parks, so I would not be trail blazing or doing any hard core survivalist stuff. I also have the Spyderco Moran and SOG Field Pup, but would like something a bit "rougher" when I leave the campsite to hit the trails.

I would look at the HR as opposed to the COOT if you want a more general utility knife for hiking.

The COOT being more slender, would be ideal for fishing and game cleaning chores - it depends on the usage you have in mind.

The CT is a beast! My favourite! It really fits the 'do it all' category in my mind....

When I hike, I take a HR and the CT. The best of all worlds.

Good luck in your choice and welcome to the swamp! Let us know how you get on...

For hiking in State Parks and on groomed trails the Coot is all the knife you'll need. Plenty strong and big enough for most cutting tasks. Yet, small and slender enough to pack away nicely. It's one of my favorite hiking knives, assuming your not out on a several day trek.;)

I would put a vote in for the coot... since it doesn't sound like there is too much of a need for real survival or shelter building. I took my coot backpacking and it performed well in every situation I used it for. The CT is a fantastic knife as well and would see a lot of use in the backcountry, but for EDC and general day hiking it would be overkill. (That being said I don't leave to go anywhere without at least 2 if not 3 knives, so I am a fan of overkill)

Get the coot now, the CT later when you get the addiction!
