Hey Patrick...thats a pretty good idea. I have the same saw and use it in both vertical and horizontal mode, but was thinking about a dedicated vertical metal saw. I am getting a used vertical Vertrax from a friend so I will set p my HF saw like you did..........thanks.....

If your space oriented, and thinking about using a portaband. You can always go wall mounted vertical like I did. Dewalt is the way to go, even used.

I have a Dewalt porta-band that I built a wall mount for and also added a stainless work table. I love it 90% of the time, but there are times that the really short throat is an issue.
Thanks for sharing that Patrick. I remembered seeing those photos quite awhile back, but your refresher came at the perfect time. I just dug my old 4X6 out of storage and brought it to the new shop.
Since I have a 7X12 I use for horizontal cutting, I figured I might as well make the 4X6 a dedicated vertical saw to go next to the Porta-band. I was pondering about how to build a stand for it....But Patrick's idea with the HF stand is perfect. I can't fuel up the pick-up, drive to town, buy the square tubing and/or angle iron, and THEN cut+weld up a stand for anywhere close to the $30 price tag on the HF stand.
With all that said... when the "right one" pops up on CL or an estate/farm/machine shop auction... I'll be adding a nice old, beefy, American vertical saw like this one.
