I have the chance to purchase a Wilton 8201 14” bandsaw for $200, used only once (to cut through beef bone). It’s been sitting at my job for roughly 6 years unused. Like I said it’s new used if that makes sense. Are these good machines? I’m slowly looking to acquire machinery to start my own little knife shop. Take it or no?

I have a Wilton 8201 14" bandsaw. It is a fine machine. It has gears that will slow down so it can cut metal. I have never used it for metal, but use it for wood. A lot of bandsaws will not cut straight cuts with the fence, but mine cuts perfect straight cuts. I can cut scales out of a block of wood and they come out perfect. I don't even need to sand them flat.
Where you get your bandsaw blades is important. I get mine from Ellis MFG. Co. 1-800-383-5547
I use 3/8" wide, .025 thick, 6 hook flex. 7' 8 1/2" . They work great on my machine.
$200.00 is a steal. I would buy it in a instant.

What is the speed? I'd say take it. $200 sounds like a deal. Even if it's too fast for cutting steel it will cut wood and other media.

Looks like you can change the belt position on the gearbox and the clutch for a high/low range for wood/metal. I would snatch that up for a heartbeat for $200. Looks like a nice saw.

Thanks so much for the reply, I’m going to grab it. Only thing that concerned me was when I did a search it seems as though Wilton doesn’t make this model any more. Should I be concerned about parts or are these band saws just trouble free or are parts interchangeable or something?

There isn't much to break you couldn't get elsewhere. The critical components that are model specific like that gear box would cost more than you're paying for the saw but aren't really wear items.

For $200 initial investment it's really a non-issue. Once upon a time that wouldn't even get you a Portaband.

I have had mine for a long time. The only problem it ever had was the tires went bad. Sulfer Grove sells replacements that fit perfectly, and they have a u-tube video that shows how to put them on.
