Bandsaw

far to fast, that one is designed for wood.

So what is the rpm I’m wanting to see and how’s that compare to surface ft per min?

as much as i dont like imports knocking off a good US product some one really needs to make a half sized roll in saw on a budget
those 4x6 saws keep lots of knife makers happy. what kind of cutting do you plan on mostly doing. chopping barstock down or sawing out blanks from larger sheets ? for me i work with 2x3 foot sheets all the time so the large heavy table really is an advantage for me

RPM means nothing, its SFPM that matters. You want a speed in the range of 80-300 surface feet per min. you then select the speed based on what steel your cutting. But rule of thumb is its better to go slower then faster. I think if you where in the 100 range you would be good for most steels.

I've had an import like that one of Stan's for over 25 years with minimum of problems. Learn the steps for proper blade alignment and use the right blades and they go like a cat that's being chased by a dog. I use and change out easily 12TPI and an 18TPI blades.

Thanks for the replies. I’m wanting to get away from the angle grinder for cutting profiles and get a proper saw. I would like to cut out handles also. Mainly though I wanna cut profiles.

I started with a cheap Harbor Freight portaband saw and mounted it vertical using a homemade wood stand. Since I have upgraded to a Milwaukee portaband and a metal made stand. Lots of videos on YouTube to make a vertical stand using wood or metal.

if you plan on cuttign handles with the 4x6 class metal saw make sure to get at least a lower tooth count blade. its painful slow and will soon have you looking for a wood only saw
