Bandsaws?? Why not a horizontal/vertical??

I don't see why it would not be a good starter saw. Might have to buy a better saw blade because the factory one is probably cheap, might be a good one though to.

I used one similar to that one for a long time. Lot's of knifemakers do. Just build yourself a better work table and you should be good to go.

I would go with a portable bandsaw myself. I have a Dewalt that cost me less and it cuts circles around my Busy Bee saw (same you posted).

Been using one made in Taiwan since 1985. Re-mounted it on a large 3/8" steel plate. Motor and all. Still working great, and I can cut 1/4" steel with no problem using 18 TPI bi-metal blade.

You will need a bimetal blade 18 teeth per inch but it will work well for you. Patrice where did you get that Dewalt at less costs? Frank

1/3 hp seems a bit low but probably better than an angle grinder/hacksaw/chop saw that I am using now. The dewalt Patrice was talking about is probably a little more powerful??? Oh and yeah a better blade, lexon diemaster2 sounds good

Actually John the motor is probably less powerful but tracking is so much better. Somebody more knowledgeable can probably explain it in details.

Frank, I am sorry to have misled you. I bought it in the states not Canada. It's terrible what they charge us here. At the local hardware store the saw was $440 plus tax and as you know in Canada it's 15%. I bought it online on special at Toolking.com for 169.99$ including free shipping. Had it shipped to a friend in Maine and picked it up myself.

That is basically the Harbor Freight 4x6. If you know anyone in the states you can have get it for you that you might be visiting. You can pic one up for about $160

I have a bandsaw like that 4x6, it works really well, but you gotta really tighten the blade well or it will twist off around corners. I found a blade for it with larger teeth, something like 8 TPI and it works great for cutting hardwood for scales.
