Who would you say makes the best bang for your buck custom knives for lets say under $250

I'm looking for a pocket carry fixed blade about 6'' or less

I don't buy custom folders. In fixed blades, Bob Dozier still stands out after all these years as a bargain and he has several models under $250. My most recent custom is this Gene Ingram in D2, which was less than $200:

I don't have any of his knives, but Charles May seems to offer some good values: http://charlesmayknives.blademakers.com/

Les Voorhies makes some folders in that area, a bit above that and you can pick up some folders on the secondary market for that. Dick Atkinson makes some as well. As for Fixed blades, the list is pretty long: Gene Ingram, Charles May, Chase Axinn, Rick Frigault, James McGowan, many others here and elsewhere. Good luck with the search!!!

I would have said Dick Atkinson but he has stopped taking orders. Unfortunate because he makes a great folder and sells them at about half what other makers charge.

Bill Vining made me a great folder that I really like. He offers a pretty good knife for what he charges. http://www.medawebs.com/knives/default.htm

Check out forum member Chuck Gedraitis work. He makes a pretty good folder also. Goes by the screen name Striper28 here on the BF. http://cgknives.blademakers.com/

I'm really looking for a small pocket cary fixed blade.

I liked Mr. Mays Fire Ant so something along those lines.

I'm with Keith. Geno makes a great knife for the bucks.
Dick Atkinson lockbacks are also a bargin in my opinion.

Here is a folder from Charles Cain that I am picking up for my dad to use.
Stainless handles, 15n20, 1080, and chainsaw blade forged. Nice little knife for 150.00 and Charles does great work.

Get in touch with Gene Ingram for a great fixed blade. He is quite a master and one of the great grinders out there. The D2 blades I bought from him are absolutely flawless.

Bob Doziers sheaths make them quite easy to everyday carry. His horizontal sheaths are the best in my opinion. One of his Personal or Whittler knives with that sheath would be a great EDC.

Bob Dozier, David Winston, Tom Krein, Wayne Hendrix,DM KNIVES,They are all not under $250,but all reasonable for what you get,in my opinion,Looks like Gene Ingram too, and just saw a knife from Bobby Branton in The Cutting Edge, for $175,that looked fine!

Tom Krein. I'm suprised no one has mentioned him yet.

How 'bout Anza? Not to everyone's taste I know, but who else can build a completely custom knife in under a week? And way under $200.

How about Kelgin Knives? I haven't ordered one yet, but I'm considering it. Starting at $150. Fill out their form, send them a sketch.

I am with all who have mentioned Bob Dozier. I currently have three of his knives and like them alot. I have seen some of the Charles May and Tom Krein knives that fit within your pricing parameters. I have no personal experience with them, however they look like very nice knives.

Does anyone have a link to May's Fire Ant?

Just curious myself. Cool name if nothing else:D

Thanks,

Dan Koster is making some really good stuff at a great price. He's just started out in the last year or so. His stuff is a great bang for your buck.

This necker is probably around $150

He does both leather and kydex sheathes. I've known him for a few years now as well as handled his stuff. He's really excited about what he's doing and a perfectionist. A first rate guy.
