I’m going to be selling off a few of my personal hunting tools just because I’m not hunting as much these days. Good stuff, lovingly used and well-maintained.
First up is a satin INFI Paul’s Hatchet originally modified by Ban Tang for his own use. Stock photo from Badmojo (below) shows example of standard PH handle shape, which Ban opened up and smoothed out for comfort in several different holds, then installed his own full-length, smooth black canvas micarta slabs. The full-length slabs allow much-improved grip when backing up on the handle for chopping. He also thinned the convex edge bevel on one side of the edge and applied a very shallow hollow grind to the other side to get an amazing cutting edge—super sharp and strong. I’ve used it lightly over the past several years and have maintained the razor edge—still ‘stupid sharp’! A few light surface blemishes, but still has several lifetimes of use ahead of it.
This is an amazing tool for so many camp and field dressing/butchering tasks—anything from splitting kindling and camp food prep to tapping through joints and pelvic bone when you don’t want to damage the edge of your favorite hunting knife. Packs light and punches well above its size/weight class. You’ll be glad to have it in your kit.
