whats the stuff that you can buy in a tin that you bruish on and is purple to show scribe lines?

actually mr higgins i origionally drew out my design using a sharpie marker, and it quickly vanished.

i use high temp barbeque paint from wall-mart.(flat black)
the scribe lines are easy to see and they the marks don't burn of if you get it to hot while grinding.

If you use permanent marker, it won't wash away. I accidently used a "washable" marker for layout once. It didn't work out too well when I dipped the bladed in water for cooling. :D

Look for industrial supply houses. Some names that come to mind are:

E.M. Precise Tool (My Dad's company, totally biased plug)
S.B. Simpson
J.B. Reid
KBC
KARR
SOWA

These are all local in the golden horseshoe area of southern Ontario.

Aaron, Layout Dye is cheap, and much better to use. However, if you get into a bind where you have none, a permanent marker is just fine. The idea is to color the areas you want to scribe then scribe over the marker. I have a friend who has been a machinist for over 40 years and he taught me that trick.

I still can't find mine but did remember the name Dykem layout fluid.
