Barehead 110

no metal rear bolster. just scale or handle to the back of the grip.

What JB said. It really should be a bare a##ed or bare butted knife, but it's not. (st8yd beat me to it)

The sheath is from the mid 80's custom shop. They resembled a gun holster. Anyone know when they quit making them? The 110/112/500 and 700 series holsters all had the buck leather retaining band that I've seen but only the early 100 series custom sheaths had that band.

Kinda what I was thinking but I wasn't sure cause as st8yd st8yd said "wouldn't that be barea$$ed not barehead" (paraphrasing ofcourse):Do_O:confused:.......seriously though thanks for clearing that up. I've seen the term used b4 I just wasn't sure.

Ya, never made much sense to me as that would be considered the butt of the knife, no "rear" bolster. So makes you wonder where the "head" comes from.
Yes, your correct. Looking back in some of my old cutlery books the term existed. Still, I agree with you guys, it is a miss nomer. A incorrect
term for our times and thinking. I would agree with 'barefooted', barebutted, ect.. Just makes better sense. I think we are stuck with this
term and don't know why. DM

Maybe we are just looking at it backwards, and describes the head end with the bolster appearing to be bald/bare headed, where as the other end/butt end is covered with the scale material....

I didn't know for a long time, too chicken to ask, so I just watched and read and figured it out. It probably sounds better than barebutt or what kossetx said....
