I always thought the definition of a Jack Knife was a knife with all the Blades on one end . And the Barlow was a Jack Knife with a bolster that was approximately 1/3 the length of the closed knife . I am not sure that it quantified whether it had to be a One Bolstered , or Bareheaded , knife . We have seen some makers make , IMO , some dubious claims of being a Barlow , but maybe they are correct .I would say yes Dylan, as I've been told a Barlow is a Jack knife but a Jack knife is not a Barlow![]()

Here's an example of that flare, Jeff. This Cramer LCJ has the most comfortable grip of any slip joint that I own.I also love the way many bareheads flare at the back end to give a very secure grip.
