So I decide I need a new knife today. The wife and I go to K's Merchandise to pick out a knife.I pick up a Benchmade Pinnacle.I open and close it a couple of times.Nice knife-129.00 yikes! So I ask to see the 710 axis.I already have one but I love the knife.I open it and see a sticker on the blade that says 64.97.I say to the clerk-"are you sure this is the right price?"
he thinks I am trying to talk the price down so he says-"it's the last one we have so I'll knock 10% off."
I say-"no I mean are you sure you have the right price on the knife.I think you have this one mixed up with the Mel Pardue linerlock."
He says-" this is a linerlock."
After showing the clerk how to close the axis lock I whip out the visa and buy the knife for 58.47

I gave the guy a chance....
My knife jones is satisfied.

Don't you just love uneducated Clerks?

That is an awesome deal and I rejoice with you.

Don't worry about it. He probably sold someone a Pardue for $140 last week.

Some time ago I was in a well known store in my area which specialized in "Military and Adventure Gear." Know which one I mean? Anyway, they were gaining a reputation for charging above the MSRP for the knives they stocked. To give you an idea, they has an EDI Genesis I retailing for $189.99. I told the clerk that the price was well above the suggested retail price and he sayed that the reason behind it was that EDI had gone out of business and that it was a collector's item. I asked to speak to the manager and I was told that that is what their buyer tells them to price it at. Needless to say, the store closed down, but is headquartered in Kentucky. Can you imagine paying these prices?
Spyderco Calypso Jr.(Micarta) $99.99
Gerber EZ-Out (440A version) $49.99
CRKT M16 SpearPoint(Zytel) $79.99

Ben,

1. I really enjoy your restaurants! Keep up the good work but don't be so cheap on the grilled shrimp!

2. Every once and a while you stumble on a good bargain. You lucky guy!

3. Let's not be too hard on clerks at the local mall, cutlery store. Yes, it would be nice if they have a full understanding of their products. However, they are sales people working for minimum wage; not knife knuts. Heck, they were probably working at the Orange Julius stand only a month ago.

4. $129 for a Pinnacle? That can't be U.S. bucks as I got mine from 1STOP for under $90 during their Halloween sale. Good knife, although it gets an unfair rep as being a Sebenza-clone.

FTC -it was US dollars.I'm in a town called Normal in Illinois.

The funny thing is -and I really hate to admit it-I bought my first 710 from that same store at full price. If I'm not mistaken it was 139.99 before tax.I had the money and it was the only store in town that carries Benchmade.Man I'm a really impulsive shopper.

Gee. I guess I got a pretty good deal at 1STOP for my $90 Pinnacle. I think that included shipping too!
