At a yard sale this morning, I picked up a Benchmade/Emerson CQC7, with the box and paperwork for $7.00. The woman wanted $10, but she took the $7.oo I offered. The catch is that the former owner (I assume), changed the grind angle to a shallower grind (smaller included angle). I figure that this ruins any possible collector value. The edge from tip to secondary point has been left original, and is pretty dull. I plan on re-profiling this edge to match the main edge in angle. It should look pretty menacing when done. Not a fan of chisel grind or combo edge (this has both). Oh well, what's $7.00. ;)

Bargin! Why do I never stumble into stuff like that?

If you don't want to mess with the angle, always remember that you can send it in to BM and they'll resharpen it for you, making it like new. :)

I don't think BM can fix this. The ground area from edge to beadblasted area is almost 1/4" long. The serrations are original grind.

  I go to yardsales looking for stuff like this with no luck. So I will give ya $20 for it :D

manowar669, it's a good knife, and should make a reliable beater if nothing else. There are still enough of them around to preclude much value as a collector anyway. Enjoy it, it's a good solid knife. I put mine through a lot of hard work and all I did was dull the black coating a bit.

You can work on the edge yourself. It should be easier to put a more obtuse angle on a narrow one than vice versa.

You got ripped man. No really, that's a great deal. Who cares if there has been a modification. You can't buy many good knives for seven bucks (Opinel comes to mind), and that is a good knife. For seven bucks you can do want you want to the knife. If you re-grind the blade and it works out the way you seem pretty confident that it will, you have a really nice knife and you paid basically nothing for it. Be sure to tell us how your work on the knife turns out.

Nice Score! Great user for 7 bucks:eek:
If you beat the living HeCK outta it, you can still turn around and sell it for you money back. Just think of it as a free knife, and you paid the S/H.
