Of course, down there in Auz at the moment it's mid-summer:D

But even up here in the Old World Winter Scandinavia, birch bark is a bloody good fire starter in the damp&cold, I carry some in my knapsack, always, it's a foolproof fire-raiser:thumbup:

Great post. Just a friendly reminder to folks to use the bark off of dead trees and not living ones unless in an emergency situation. Also, it is much easier to remove from trees that are already downed.
