Bark River Blade / Link

Josh, there is no catch. :) Mike from Bark River just likes to make a good knife and offer it at a good price. BTW the knives are Lazer cut from bar stock then I believe are ground (I know some are, but not sure about all of them), assembled and finished by hand. - They are hand made production knives for a good price. :) And, most are a Carbon steel to boot. :D

Wow, they have some nice knives on their site. Prices are a bit hard to believe though. A 4" convex ground A-2 blade and micarta handles for $79??? What's the catch

No "catch." As I understand it, blades are delivered to him ready for final grinding, finishing, and assembly. Mike Stewart ain't no "new kid on the block." For purposes of getting the knives made and out the door, he was Black Jack Knives. He has figured out how to produce a great product at a reasonable price -- and he's happy doing it. Stands behind his product to a degree that would surprise folks not from the Cantina. And he's VERY easy to communicate with via e-mail. I love the old Mamba design also. I still have the one I bought new back in the late 80's I think. They are sweet lookers and a nicely ground convex edge. I fell in love with all of the Blackjacks back then. I bought one of the Blackjack/Reinhart combat Khukuris back then also. It also was hand ground with a convex edge. The smaller Mamba that I got later on was machine ground with a conventional edge. Not as nice as the earlier stuff, but nice none the less. I wish I could afford to buy one of these sweethearts also, maybe just a set of those nice Micarta grips to replace the textured rubber ones on mine.

Josh,

Low overhead... ;)

Great using knives for the price, most of ours ended up going home in the hands of some friends down from Alaska, over dinner at the Oregon show last month...

Now, to only get more, for ourselves...

I jest got this cool SOG Pentagon from MacHete. I've wanted one since they came out! The hi-ride leather 'holster' is quite nice...It's the perfect karda, doing all the tasks that the khuk won't do easily.

Hey Keith, congrats on the new SOG Pentagon. :) Can you tell me about the Leather 'Holster'? Thanks,

Check this special out. I get these emails because I am a member of this collectors club, but of course the price is for everyone who gets there.

This is an exact replica of the old Blackjack 1-7 with stacked leather, last made almost 10 years ago, but this time with 154CM steel. Convex grind of course. All the black micarta copies sold out and Russell is putting the last of the leather handle models on sale for $139, which is $40 off their price from last week.

I phoned Russell and asked about the just sold out Micarta and was told that no more of any handle style were going to be made by Bark River. Russells has the last of them and when they're gone that's it.

This is a good snag. I already have a 1-7 in stag, plus I owe Uncle Bill my next two paychecks, or I would be grabbing one of these for sure! :D

Let me know if you get one.

Regards,

Norm
