Bark River Bravo-2

Overall, I'd say the knife is a good field knife or even combat/utility knife. I think of it as an upgraded Ka-Bar.

Exactly my impression. Okay chopping, great splitting (batoning), good general use, lanyard extension makes a decent hammer, sharp enough to poke mean nasty critters if you had to. Comfortable in the hand, except for the bottom of the lanyard extension when chopping - I'm going to grind that one rounded off!

I expect it to be as tough as your average sharpened pry-bar, but it cuts as well as the Bravo-I or any other Barkie, which is saying something!

I am not a big fan of big knives, but I got to play with a Bravo2 last week.

I like it alot better than the Bravo1, and agree totally in Gampa's assesment.

Although I don't have the largest hands; so the lanyard extension of the handle doesn't bother me as much.

The thumb ramp is still there, but it is not as pronounced as on the Bravo 1.

I plan on buying a Bravo 2 at some point, when my finances are a lil stronger.

Looks like a great knife...I like the overall design but I may purchase the Bravo3(when available)before the Bravo 2. I will own a B-2 oneday Iam sure... LOL !

That would look great without that pimple on top. I would take my belt sander to that on the first day.

Great Review HD!

I like that you compared it to some other knives. I think that helps. Interesting you say it's not as good a chopper as the Hudson Bay. I was really impressed by the HB as a knife, but not as a chopper. I like the style of the HB way better but that's just me:o

You could always order one without the thumb rest the next run of those they do. It doesn't bother me. I know some were made without the thrumb rest. On the original Bravo-1, the Marines asked for the thumb rest.

I prefer the HB for chopping. Mine chops about as well as my Busse Sarsquatch. The original Hudson Bay Camp knives were used for light chopping, skinning big game, and many other tasks. It is a great all-around knife. It slices well, too.
