I have recently picked up a Bravo 2. Today I put it thru its 1st real work, I chopped a few hickory logs which were about 4 or so inches in diameter. The bravo 2 had a chip and several dents develop in the blade. What is Bark Rivers waranty? Will they take care of the chip. I did by no means abuse the knife. It is a great looking blade and I did not expect this to happen, but it did. I have many other knives that i have used much more than the B2 and they are fine. I did not expect chip just from some chopping, I guess I am asking you all where do I go from here? Thanks, BTW I will post some pics soon

here is 1 pic

From what I've heard, you should have no trouble returning it. BRK&T will likely re-sharpen it or provide a new knife if they deem it defective. It is an interesting observation. A2 rarely chips like you said it does. Pictures would be nice to see.

I would love to see pics of this.

I know BR will stand behind their product. It just sucks to pay so much money for something, and then have to turn around and be without for who knows how long :grumpy:

Regardless, please let us know how this plays out for you.

I will definitely keep you all informed, knife seemed to be awesome, until I put it to work. All I have used this blade for up to this point for is minor work. Hickory is hard, but no where near the hardness to cause blade wear.

I thought the B2 was stainless? That certainly looks like a chip and not 'damage' to the edge. But I bet that BRKT will grind that edge back to thicker steel and put an edge on it. It's still a serivceable knife once the edge is refreshed. Even Busse's have had similair damage threads and pictures.

Bark river is very fast a getting a blade fixed just send it in.

The factory grind on the bravo 2 is very thin, more slice than chop. If you increase you angle when you sharpen that all changes, it will slice and chop.

I would also like to add, I put a Becker BK9 thru the ropes today as well, and wow, it turned out great, no chips, no blade wear, and BTW I used it loads more than the BR B2, looks like i will be getting some more beckers!!!!

Bravo-2 is made of A2; there is a SS-bravo-1 model though.

Wow, thanks for the picture. A2 shouldn't chip like that.

i've put my b2 through its paces and hasnt chipped. maybe yours was a fluke, atleast i hope so :D

good luck with dealing with bark river :)

does anyone have any experience with BR's customer service? Should I email or call or just mail the blade back, thanks.

They usually have warranty work like this back out in a week. You should be good to go! :)

I have beat the ever living hell out of many A2 Barkies. Even with thin edges, I never had one chip. My guess is it was an anomoly in the steel, or the edge was just a bit too thin on the grind. Regardless, even with "rotten in Denmark comments" which quite frankly need to be ignored given the EXCEPTIONAL reputation for customer service that Bark River has, they will make it absolutely right for you. Trust me, I know. I have many of their knives and every so often one will get through that just isn't quite right. You may have one of those, but it still sucks to be without it for a week or 2.

If you want Bark Rivers phone# to speak with either Donna or Mike, let me know. I got ya covered bro.

Bark River's warrantee and customer service is second to none.

My guess is that the edge was just ground too thin - since all the blades are hand ground, it does happen sometimes.

As has been said, contact Bark River directly - calling is fastest - and send it right off - they'll have it back to you very quickly.

I had a similar problem with my Golok. I posted on the other forum and mike answered immediatly and informed me that I hadn't abused the knife and that he would take care of it right away. about 3 weeks later my golok is back and looks like new (I had them change the handles to match my aurora and my micro scalpel for 40 bucks while it was there also so it might be returned sooner.)

Mike said that the edge was probably too thin for what I was doing (chopping limbs and deadfalls up for firewood) he thickened the edge on the golok and otherwise gave the whole knife a complete once over. It looks like new! well it did before I went to chopping with it again. No dents or chips anymore.

This was my response from Mike
The whole thing is Covered under Warranty except the change of handles.

Send in the knife and the sheath and we will re-grind the Blade with a little Thicker Edge Spine for you.

The sheath is covered under the warranty also.

Changing the handles runs about $40.00.

Here is the Address:

there is nothing you can do to void the Warranty--with an exemption that I'm sure one of the other guys will tell you about and you were not abusing the knife.

it seems that the edge was just a little thin for what you wanted to use it for.

Not a Problem.

Mike...................

I think if you just box it up with a note and a return address they will get it right back to you

As with everything it's always gonna be a compromise of sorts. I've got Scrapyard blades and Swamprat blades that can chop through car doors without damage but that is because their edges are left so thick, can they cut as good as a thin convex edge such as those on a Barkie.....no way !!!
I did hear from a respected knifemaker( who asked not to be mentioned ) that he has had a lot of Barkies sent to him with similar damage for repair, however this is going to occur anytime you take the edge down that fine. At least BRKT stands by thier products and offers great service in putting right any damaged blades !

It is the badger clause. If any Bark River is damaged by a badger, it is not covered. That is the only clause in the warranty...period. :D

Don't get so wound up TB. You know I have lots of barkies, and they are great. I meant it because this is not the behavior of A2, or a barkie, so something else is going on.

BR has always taken care of me in the past. But still, it does suck to buy something new and then have to give it up again, especially if you planned on using it. Regardless of BR warranty, this is a good case (IMO) for learning to take care of these types of dings yourself.
