Bark River.... Educate me about them....

The specifications for handle and blade length are available (You can always Google "bark river" and the model name.). Get a ruler and see what 3 7/8" (or whatever) looks like compared to your hand width. Some barkies are three or even two finger knives (for most folks). Some have notably long handles. See for yourself with a ruler. :)

One problem I had with my first Rogue Bowie was that the handle was slick and tapered into the edge of the blade. I slipped once and sliced my index finger pretty good. I had just received the knife and had not yet sanded the smooth micarta. After sanding, it became one of my favorite handles for long use and low shock transfer. I have three Rogue's now. I usually carry a machete and smaller knife but when I can't bring the chet' I usually grab the Rogue.

Here's a pic of my knives. Most of my Barkies are here (plus or minus a couple) on the right. They are outstanding knives.

I guess handle size is kind of important to me, as I have large hands, not as large as I have seen, but larger than average.

I would recommend that you find some place you can handle them before buying one. It appears to me that the number one complaint about Bark River knives is the handle being too small. I had a North Star for a short time and both the size and shape of the handle was probably the worst I've ever owned. FWIW I normally wear a large glove.

I have thought some of the handles were too small, but when I actually use them, most of them actually work quite well for me.

I am a BRKT fan. a big fan. :)

This works to some extent. But, most measurements do no describe the actual grip space. The describe the overall length minus the blade edge, or the handle scales, including the guard and butt, which are not really useable grip space.
