Bark River Essential EDC...With Bolster or Without

Thank you all for your feedback and comments, I rely heavily on your opinions and reviews because "YOU" are the final end users. I've decided to go for the Essential without bolsters. I took a 1 ounce sinker and carried around in my pocket, just to see what an ounce "REALLY" feels like, and in a suit trouser pocket, you really do feel it.

Now as for carry mode, I think I'm going to attempt to make a custom kydex sheath for strong-side, IWB for my choice of carry and I will probably use the stock sheath it comes with for when I take it camping/backpacking (Esse 4 or Fallkniven F1 for primary)

Any feedback/suggestions for the carry mode? As always, your feedback/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Aaron :D

Redbike,

Thanks for the pics and comment. Once the Essential is purchased, the City is next on the hit list.

I have a City as well as the Essential. The City would make a more efficient carry in office attire, I should think. Essential was only available with a bolster when I purchased it. I do, however, like the look of the latest no-bolster model.

Like you I wear a suit to work every day. My work environment is business formal. It would not be culturally acceptable to hang up my coat and have a knife on my belt. To look good in a suit (we're talking an actual wool suit here, not cotton khakis) I don't carry bulgy items that are going to screw with the drape of the coat or put big sags in my pants. I recognize other people's situations will be different from mine.

I have a work bag and I carry my favorite gear in my work bag. That includes a multi-tool, light, and item of my choosing out of the collection.

If there's a chance you might ever take your coat off at work, ask yourself if it's socially acceptable to be seen with an IWB or OWB knife hanging around. If in doubt, ask your boss. If you're the boss, do what you like and accept that people will judge you based on what they perceive when they see you and how it makes them feel.

I guess I'm more into bags than belt wear myself. I've got my work bag and when I'm out hiking I prefer to have a sheathed knife in or lashed to my pack.

Ramzar, excellent pictures! Seriously good stuff. RamZar, seeing the high polish mirror like reflections coming off it and really showing the convex grind made me want to buy one though I don't need it. Is it Renn waxed?

Thanks. You mean Renn Wax on the leather? If so, no. It was some make of leather protector that I use on my shoes.

I want to play, too...

Here's my dress kit. Stag Essential, Adirondack sheath, and small blue Dog Paw Classic. The Essential gets most of the use but the Sebenza is handy to have in a crowd when everybody's watchin'. I have a black canvas micarta Essential and a black Adirondack sheath for normal day-to-day carry. With 65 year-old hands that have some loss of grip and sensation, I'm developing a new appreciation for small FBs that don't have to be opened or closed.

Dale, that is one nice Sunday-go-to meeting rig.

Thank you. That's actually what I do with it. Preachin'... buryin'... marryin'... it's been there for all of them. Rides right in my left inside coat pocket. I've always loved stag handles on a knife and couldn't resist this one when I saw it on DLT's web site.

Hey BF,

Thanks a lot for all your replies to this thread. I will upload some pics once knife and sheath are in hand. Until then....

Regards,
Aaron
