Ok, many of you may not know me over here. I will be changing that quite a bit in the upcoming future, but to make a long story short, I am a bit of a Bark River junkie. I enjoy talking about their knives much like anyone who is a Sebenza, Spyderco, custom, etc junkie or groupie.

To start, just call me Jeff. Makes it much easier for typing. I answer to dip$hit as well, but never "late for supper".

The purpose of this thread in particular is to start a passaround of an exceptional piece of steel that the Bark River team has put out. It is their Glen Eagle ax. It is a purposeful hunting tool, camping tool and...if need be...an excellent weapon. It is made out of .300" thick 1095 heat treated the Barkie way and hits like a ton of bricks. It is very weight forward and comfortable in the hand. It throws a decent chip on green wood (although it was tough to get a big chip out of 3 year aged and dried maple...that stuff is like chopping stone. Would have been better off with a cruiser size double bit :D ) and the design lends exceptional control for choking up to skin game or whittle branches. I will be including the SharpShooter Sheath Systems Baldric. It is a leather sling that has boat loads of adjustment points to accommodate any size person and makes carrying the Glen Eagle or any other large blade VERY easy.

Now on to the fine print...

Here's the specs:

Overall Length: 12 Inches
Cutting Edge: 4.9 Inches
Blade Steel: 1095 @ 57rc
Blade Thickness: .300 Inch
Weight: 22.775 Ounces
Stainless steel bolsters
Handles are epoxied and bolted together with Corby Bolts. (Pretty much bullet proof)

The Rules:

1. You must promise to ship the Glen Eagle ax after 4 days of usage. Shipping must be USPS insured for $500.00 and sent Priority to the next person on the list, plus, you must use "delivery confirmation" when you send.
2. You must take at least one pic and post it in the passaround thread with your impressions of the axes.
3. These are very stout tools and can take a great deal of abuse but common sense will prevail here. Do not try to chop cinder blocks, pry open car doors or take on a Wisconsin Badger with these axes. they will take massive batoning without a hitch, just make sure to use a wood baton. Again, common sense.
4. You must have at least 200 posts on EITHER this forum OR Knife Forums to be included or, I reserve the right to include you for other reasons. If a moderator says you are a smacktard I will remove you as well. I need their judgment in this as well.
5. This is going to be a HEAVY package. Please know that shipping costs could exceed $20 with the insured value, confirmation and weight.
6. I am going to limit this pass around to 25 people combined.
7. I will need VIABLE contact information. Full name, address, and a valid email OR phone #.
8. NO STONES are to touch this blade. Fine grit sandpaper and a leather hone only. This is a CONVEX edge. If you are uncertain how to maintain an edge like this, there are MANY tutorials and videos posted by many people up to and including myself.
*I reserve the right to not include you in the passaround if for any reason I am not sure of your intentions, etc.*
*CONUS ONLY. Sorry guys, but we are going to keep this in the lower 48* Also, if you initially agree to the conditions above but fail to fulfill any of them, you will not be eligible for any more passarounds.

PLEASE NOTE! This is a JOINT effort for both Blade Forums AND Knife Forums that I am doing this for. When you sign up, please include the following suffix... BF, KF or BOTH to tell me where you are a member of.

Example: TwinBlade (Both)

There may be additional edits to this so check back often.

Any edit I make will not be included in the main body but denoted easily for all to see.

OOH OOH OOH!!! I just got off the Phone with Mike Stewart. He is going to fast forward a different grind Glen Eagle to my house. This one will be SPECIFICALLY designed for wood...not hunting. People will then be able to see the geometry difference and realize why geometry is so important. This is a VERY generous offer. I couldn't be happier.

So, that means this will be a 2 GLEN EAGLE passaround. One with a hunting geometry, 1 with a wood geometry. All prices posted above reflect this change. $500 insurance, $20 (maybe a couple dollars more) shipping.

I would like to set the start date for shipment from my home for September 2, 2008. this should give plenty of time to form a list and get any additional details worked out.

Thanks for the participation.:thumbup::thumbup:

I will be contributing to the forum soon to get my perks and allow my to PM, but until that time, please send any requests via PT to me on KF or to my email addy... jmarshall14@wi.rr.com

from Mike Stewart...

I'll Clarify this a bit on the Grinds.

As You know--We made the Glen Eagle as a Hunter's Ax.

It had the Heavy Grind for Splitting Joints.

It chops wood well but not like an ax made for wood.

I'm Building a second one for this that I will put Woods Geometry on.

I think You will find it interesting to see both and see the Real Difference it makes.

I'll get the Second one started on Monday and get it down to Jeff.

Mike...............
