Bark River Knives Forum(s)?

You bring up a good point. I was able to read some infamous threads before they vanished a few years back. After reading them, I was less inclined to give Mike the benefit of doubt that I afforded him before. I think people compartmentalize things like Mikael W did. Personally I find Mike an entertaining character, but I never pulled the trigger on any knives.
It is some extra work to dig through all the threads. It is quite common for people to separate the knife from maker and disregard anything the maker has done. Every strider thread has them.

I appreciate knowing at least, that most of what I'm looking for seems to be on Faceback. Too bad I have no intention of creating a FB account and going there.

Love em or hate em, I think it would be great to have a designated Bark River forum here on Bladeforums but I obviously have zero input on that issue... Mods, what do you think?
The manufacturer has to request a forum. They also need to provide a person to moderate said forum.

Good luck with your request. There is a higher chance a sock sheath will stop a knife from stabbing your leg.

I wish Bark River had a forum here. I don't do facebook. I have a membership, but really really dislike all the email updates... you have 105 updates.... they never go away. I delete emails from them every single day usually several times a day... I refuse to provide the information they want you to give also.

Folk here don't give Bark River much credit for producing a great knife. They make a lot of knives and some are duds. Such is life. If I were Mike Stewart, I wouldn't have a forum here either based on the history here. I personally have no problem with Mike Stewart and would buy one of his knives in a minute if something grabbed my attention. At the moment, the 5" Kephart is catching my interest. I want one and have been mentioning this for months here on this forum. But, now I'm having second thoughts about spending the money as I already have a number of knives that fill the role I intended for it. To put it simply, I just don't use fixed bladed knives very often.

There is bad blood between this forum ( not just members, but mods and above ) and Stewart that goes back decades, Stewart just rubs industry people the wrong way (for the most part justifiably). I also doubt Stewart would want one here, as he gets testy when he can't play little dictator in regards to topics, posts, etc.....

The best you can maybe try for is a collectors forum like Schrade and Camillus have.

I love the look of most brkt knives and the one I bought turned out to be great, but knowing what I know now I regret giving my money to brkt instead of a more reputable maker.

I have enough knives to last me several life times, anything I buy at this point isn't a necessity, so the character of the person getting my money weighs heavily on my decision when purchasing a new knife.

Geee.. I do like the 2 BRKT knives that I use and would add others if the funds allowed...:D John

Maybe my opinion can look like I'm compartmentalize things, but I do have more than one source for my opinions.
I have actually had a lot to talk about with Mike Stewart over the years.
In 2008 I was online with him in KFC issues as I was a greenhorn in moderating the Fällkniven Forum, when one of the BR opinionstorms peaked overhere.
So I had his version of things, when they occurred here.
He solved the issue exactly as he publicly stated at the time.
It was a long time ago and the KFC is history.
Mike has moved to Facebook and I'm around here.
BR seems to do well on FB and that's fine with me.
I'm not particularily fond of FB.

Regards
Mikael

I didn't intend to open any wounds, just looking for info on where I may learn about upcoming releases, productions schedules, etc. for Bark River. Since I'm not going on FB I'll simply do without them.

I've no intention to push for a Bark River forum here or anywhere else. Just had hoped for an option other than the despised FB.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Much appreciated.

Mike Stewart is a sleezy shady individual. A little research goes a long way. His jerking around of people right here on this forum is well documented.

I won't spoon feed anyone the past, but it is there to be found. On top of Mike Stewart being a turd, Bark river has a reputation for sending out knives in the wrong steel. Also well documented.

I couldn't care less if someone has 1,000,000 bark river knives. Chances are with a high number of knives each knife isn't being used enough to actually discern anything. I mean how long can you use each knife for? Give every knife a year of solid use to evaluate it? Yea ok.

Facts are facts. Research Mike's history and his companies issues.

Sir, do you know Mike personally?

I’m still coming to grips with it being normal for a man to disparage another man in public like that. Traditionally, men don’t do that.

Sir, do you know Jared west?

When a man makes a PUBLIC history for himself, it is unusual for him to be disparaged for his actions? Please. Save your soap box. You defend Mick burger too.

Move along.

I don’t know either one of them.

What you are doing though is trashing someone you don’t know. It shows your character more so than any knife maker.

Wrong. When a man tarnishes his own reputation for all his peers to see, he has made his bed hard. Personal responsibility.

I don't know many of the scum that commit other sleezy acts but I know their actions speak louder than words.

No worries, bud. This always tends to happen when someone talks about BRKT, Strider, Quartermaster, etc. Not your fault and wasn't a bad question. Nothing wrong with asking about knives and where to find additional information on a blade forum ;)

Stewart's actions are public and documented. If you think bringing those actions up is trashing him, then it reflects on his actions, not the folks mentioning them.

As for knowing them, I doubt you knew Joseph Stalin, yet I suspect you'd be willing to make certain judgements as to his character.

Talking about what people say he did is one thing. Jumping on a thread about knives and calling the dude names and trashing him is much different.

All this name calling and men acting like old bitties is what is killing this forum.

Talk about knives, stay of a threads topic. The mods are so selective when it comes to some of these rules.

The topic of this thread was about a bark river forum. The answer includes information about Mike Stewart.

Did you even read the thread? Or you just don't care? Mike Stewart took money from maker a here and dicked him around for months. That's the tip of the iceberg.

Educate yourself. As to speaking on the knives only, you may not care what who/what/where your knife was made by... I do. I won't separate maker and product.

Also funny you take shots at my character while defending guys like Mike stewart and your other favorite maker mick. Irony.

I know the stories. Do I know if they’re true? Do I know if there is another side to the story?

Why do you think it’s up to you to trash a guy on a thread like this?

It’s just getting old having a bf mafia jumping on threads and trashing people.

You can’t think you are right on this one. If you don’t want to buy the guts knives then don’t. Stop your crusade. You sound like a terrible person
