Bark River Knives still good??? Their sheath's are junk!!!

I simply find it un-fraking-believable that both Mike and Reid continue to argue that there's nothing wrong with it.

Very true. I have been following this B-1 sheath fiasco since the beginning on the other forum that is controlled by Mr. Stewart himself.
Since then he has deleted all of the post where he has breakdowns and shouts down all those who question the flawed sheath.
With the help of Sharpshooter they have said that there is nothing wrong with the sheath.
There was a thread where Mike said they are working on a new design however it has been deleted.
He has repeatedly said that people are out to ruin his company and that his company is now crap. All of which has been deleted.
Bark River is still one of the top manufactures out there and constantly produce new, top quality knives. Just wish the owners could drop the ego and accept that something they made is less than great.
I still love my spearpoint B-1 and the sheath will do till I get a better one.

That metal snap on scratching the blade is familiar...had the same thing with other BR sheathes.
Knife retention is often very weak on their sheathes, don't up-end them or the knife will drop out. You could lose the knife or injure yourself, if that's good and part of the design, so be it...

My BR bravo came with kydex and that was maybe 2 years ago? the leather at the time looked ok but mine is a hard user and the kydex has suited me fine. I like Bark River knives I have not owned many so no expert but I have allways liked the blades I see from them. I do think they may suffer from having so many different models. Some "Unisexing" of sheaths may be required just to make the numbers work out right, but alas "unisex" pants just dont really fit everyone. But lol hell it beats buying a knife that comes in cardboard :)

I'm absolutely amazed at that as well, and based on Mike Stewarts comments on the other forum I don't think I'll ever buy another one of his knives. The guy really seems to have a problem dealing with customers, especially if they dare to disagree with him. He comes off as extremely rude and childish.

That's all I have seen and heard about Bark River lately. It's enough to turn me off. I have seen their blades fail, I have owned the crappy sheath that Sharpshooter makes and have dealt with poor customer service. It's too bad, because they used to make some kick ass blades and awesome designs.

I own 4 BRKT knives and they are easily my favorite fbs. I like the classic style and the convex edges. I've seen more than a few posts by Mike on the other forum and he is definitely kind of a jerk. He's dismissive, superior, rude and overall kind of a douch. I'm seriously conflicted b/c I love his knives, but am put off by his attitude. This issue with the sheathes does not help in my opinion of him and his company at all. Particularly when there are so many awesome custom makers on this forum that could easily replace the BRKT knives.

I'm with ya man. I wanted to add a bravo 1 to my existing collection of BRKT knives, but now that I've seen him show his ass in public, I think I'd rather give my money to another company or one of the custom makers on this forum.

Yup. He's a prick that thinks he knows more about knives than anyone else:rolleyes:.

I like a lot of their knife designs, but I have issues with all the heavy handed censorship at what, for all purposes, is the company's website. You just don't want to pull the trigger in that kind of environment.

I was a big fan of Bark River in the beginning (even on a previous version of the other forum, I believe it was about 12 years ago)
At that time Mike was very friendly and open minded.
The last years he's attitude changed a lot.
Now I seldom visit their forum, but I do like their knives.

He must been aware of the negative effects of his replies that he deleted them all.
I guess if you are used to get daily praise on your own forum, you loose the ability to deal with (founded) critic.

Maybe there's something personal going on that he's dealing with. Doesn't excuse his behavior though. I bought one bark river and had issues with it. To me their knives are just...meh.

I have the older style of deluxe sharpshooter sheath for my Bravo 1. It's very nice, and I have had no issues with it at all. The knife fits snug, and the retention is tight. I can hold it upside down, sheathed but unstrapped, and the knife doesn't fall out. My sheath even has a plastic cover on the inside which covers the snap rivet and prevents the blade from being scratched. It's my only Barkie knife, but I've been very happy with it.

Next time I want to buy a premium fixed blade for around ~$200 I will go with a small custom maker, like fiddle back forge.

I was on the other forum when he went into a rant about the sheath and then quickly deleted all his posts and even deleted some entire threads. I guess when you are surrounded by "yes" men it can go to your head. Since my original post I have sold my Bravo and a couple other BR knives, I am done.

I sent the poorly designed Bravo sheath back for the improved design now available as a replacement. The goods new is that it has a solid back and is much more secure. The bad news is that it will cost you fifteen bucks to make the swap.

On the other forum Mike Stewart said that BR would pick up the return shipping as long as you paid the shipping to Escabana. Hm.

You posted over there that you liked the sheath ... what happened?

I like it too! Lets keep things positive on this Saturday morning!

I did say I liked the sheath but there is a flaw in the design. Did you actually read it or are you just trolling? I basically just lost respect for the man and the company if you must know.

Yeah, read it.

Are you sensitive about being asked questions?

lol

I just do not appreciate loaded questions that are directly trying to make people look bad, much like your previous statements in this very thread. You seem to try to call people out and try make them look bad. Whatever works for you. I am just trying to help people out. Oh and LOL.
