I've been looking at Bark River Knives and would like to hear from you guys and gals as to what you feel would be the better all-around knife, Northstar or Fox River?

I've been loving my scandi grind, Helle Taiga, but would like to try a Bark River convex grind knife. The positive posts I've read on this forum, plus their overall beauty, clean design and utilitarian looks have definitely got my attention!

Most of my knife use is for general motorcycle type camping, where I'll typically use a knife for fire building and food prep. I do like to play around with whittling spoons and forks, fire "poke sticks", etc., for fun. I don't baton much with a knife, as I always pack a small hatchet (GB Wildlife).

The Fox River is A2 carbon steel while the Northstar can be had in either A2 or CPM3V.

I'm planning on a motorcycle trip to Alaska next year and I'd like to pack a Bark River (along with the GB and a filet knife), to cover anything I might run into.

Thanks, in advance, for your replies!

I had a Northstar and it was a beautiful, high quality knife. I eventually gave it away though (here actually - at 2,000 posts). The handle was just too small for me. If that isn't an issue for you, I'd say go with the Fox River. The blade shape might be more useful for preparing food - if you cook in camp. Of course, I'm splitting hairs since you can't go wrong here!

I also do a lot of motorcycle camping. My go-to fixed blade is usually an SDS Nessmuk. I find that blade shape to be great for food prep as well as other camp chores, and it's teamed up with a hatchet and multitool.
