Got a Parang with the "lava flow" kirinite from Bark River the other day, my first Bark River knife. The handle seams highly polished, is ultra smooth and there's no jimping, it's almost like they want the knife to fly out of your hand with every chop. The edge is only sharp near the tip and just under the belly, kind of curious. I ordered the upgraded sheath, which itself seems pretty cheesy, it's open spine and the two sides puff out from each other pretty good. I also really had to work at it to make the knife fit properly.

I just had shoulder surgery last Friday so I can't strop it or get out there and chop with it yet, but overall I'm not very impressed... at all. With how quick Mike Stewart is to trash other maker's knives, his seem to be seriously lacking in thought, execution and quality control, but hey, it's pretty and that's all that counts, right?

When I get back from pt today I'll take some pictures.

The first cut (left to right) is under the belly, second and third is the belly and fourth is the tip.

I guess the handle wasn't totally without thought, there is a palm swell.

Sorry about the issues. Did you send it back? I have one and am completely happy with it, sheath and all. No flaws. Great fit/finish, hair razor sharp end-to-end. Open sheath is fine for this shape blade and leather weight and quality is as good as any other commercial production sheath I have, better than most.

Gun how are you liking this parang?
Any actual use yet?
Any chips or rolls?

Do you regret not getting the Bravo III ?
ANY info would be great

Meh, jimping is no substitute for a well shaped handle and strong grip.

The only thing jimping does is tear up my hands.

I don't use gloves or lanyard s though, to each their own.
