Bark River Shootout: Mikro Canadian 2 vs Pro Scalpel

I think the Mikro would win the shootout.....not many PSII's out there to shoot back.

They are on the production schedule, but I am guessing it will be after the first of the year.

Those Micros look great. I'd never considered getting that small of a fixed blade (isn't that what folders are for?) but now I see the appeal. The original Micro-C with the thicker A2 especially... very nice.

But there is the pointier tip of the Pro Scalpel, and for certain tasks it is more useful than the more bellied edge of the Mikro II. Here is a pic of the Pro Scalpel with (from left to right) the Mikro Canadian one and two.
I use all of them for varied fine cutting, so it really depends on the purpose.

Why don't you elaborate on the various tasks you prefer to do with the PS and MC.

8-)

I've still got a few days before I order mine!

They are too special probably for common purposes. I am a harpsichordist, and I cut my own plectra, and for that I need small blades. Here is a thread where the Pro Scalpel won the contest exactly because its edge is straighter near the tip, for scraping/slicing the marrow from a bird quill:

Other uses where the straight edge near the tip make it excel against the more bellied Mikro or Mini Canadians are intarsia work, cutting passepartout cardboard and the like. For such uses, the Canadians are can do, but the Pro Scalpel is better. Otoh, the Mikro Canadians have a meatier and wider blade, and that makes them the relatively better slicers and carvers.

Not meant as a distraction, but as a pensive after-thought...
I have a three-finger Mini Canadian (Mini not Mikro) that Mike Stewart sold away at one of his custom knife offerings. What he had done was simply shorten a regular Mini Canadian blank by one finger. This is a knife that works beautifully as an EDC. If it strikes you, why not ask him to make another one?
Here it is together with my regular Mini Canadian.

And here it is together with my Pro Scalpel, for size comparison:

Well I pulled the trigger:

On a beautiful Mikro Canadian II with the KSF pocket sheath and KSF Bark River sharpening kit.

I just couldn't pass this knife up. It was the most expensive MC on there ($145) but the combination of the redwood and mosaic pins was to die for.

Pics to come!

That 3 finger Mini is a very cool little knife. It seems like what Spyderco would call a "little big knife" that can do some pretty big jobs. I don't have a barkie yet. I was about to pull the trigger on one of the KSF Barkniven S1's but i got offered a beautiful Skookum bush tool. So now my first barkie will probably be one of the smaller knives so this has been a useful thread.

This might seem really silly but i am liking the shape of the PS but am still leaning towards the micro canadian just because i live in Canada.

The KSF pocket sheath looks cool.

I'm going to be using the pocket sheath with my MC and an Arc AAA. I think it will be the ultimate combo.

i got the pocket version so i could put whatever inside it. i hope my keys will fold flat enough, otherwise it will be my arc or a spyderco folder.
