Bark River Smoke Jumper Action WOW!

Do you guys finish them, decorate them and reuse them or something? Seriously, I always hear about guys not wanting to chew up the baton, and wonder what I'm missing.

Yes, I cherish my batons and them lug around in a big pelican case in order to protect them on route. Seriously though, it is annoying to when your baton keeps breaking.

You also lose a lot of efficiency when the back of the knife is batoning through the baton as well as through what your batoning through.

Did anyone notice what I made my baton out of? A small, heavy, dense tree that is Ironwood. (blue birch, musclewood, take your pick) but I knew the amount of abuse I was going to do on that knife, I knew the swedge would MAYBE be an issue...it wasn't...and the baton did what it needed to do and did it well. I imagine if you took a punk wood branch to a double edged knife, you would have problems. :D

Hmm, interesting, never thought of that.

I guess I just picked a nice, hard, dry hardwood baton to use the few times I did it. . .

Great review and great pics. Thanks for the observations on the grind. Impressive amount of work for any knife.
