This from KnivesShipFree (the best place to buy Barkies IMHO)

"Blackjack Classic Knives, proudly made in the USA by Bark River Knife and Tool, are designed to perform in the woods, excel in tactical applications and meet the challenges of front-line military service. They're all time-tested patterns, hand-ground and finished with the kind of care you demand in a go-to blade.

Blackjack Knives Classic series is Blackjack's premier line. They are all made in the USA from top quality materials and are equal to or superior to the finest knives anywhere in the world.

Each Blackjack knife is as nice as many customs on the market, but priced for users. These are knives have convex blades, so they hold an edge exceptionally well and slice like no other."

Not all Blackjack's are equal. The brand has bounced about a lot actually. The original company went out of business and the brand held it's value and kept coming back.

The latest effort, the Bark River Blackjack's should be excellent but then they are effectively Bark River knives.

The original Blackjack's made in Effingham Ill. are excellent knives and came into being to make Randall knockoff's to be honest. But they had the Mamba and other of their own designs. All the Effingham made knives are superior and collectable.

Blackjack's were made in Japan and these are OK. Some were made who knows were in Asia and are cheopos but easy to spot with the crome steel and black plastic molded handles.

An effort was made to bring back the Effingham quality with production in Greenville West Virginia. Not sure where that stands. I know that Smokey Mountian Knife Works got involved with the brand and was selling them on their TV show (they said they own it now). It may be that SMKW's and Bark River are now partners in the Brand or SMKW has contracted with BRKT to make the knives.

If you can get an Effingham knife do it. Pass on all Asian knives.
I think the Greenville knives are OK too as are the SMKW/BRKT versions.

Hope all that helps.

What He Said.

Nice knives

Hey J-man, which barkie did you get?

Also most of the Blackjack knives on KSF (I agree with HandofCod about KSF) are made from A2 steel, so if its anything like the the A2 on my Bravo 1, it should be great.

Isn't the owner of Bark River also the owner of the original or first Blackjack Knives too? I think he is.

Hay. Igot my self the Sand storm 2. I love it.
Sounds like i am going to get my self some Blackjacks aswell:D

The new American made BlackJacks are the real deal. :D :D

High quality A2 blades (with Mike Stewart's HT) at a great price.

Better even then the original BlackJacks.

Some even say thay are the closest thing to a "User" Randall Made Knife,

...but I prefer Bark River's convex grind to Randall's hollow grind.

Big Mike

I agree. that is what got my eye. a Randall style knife with out the price.
Next month i get one i think.
Thanks for your imput guys.

If I had the spare cash, I'd order a Blackjack 125 to replace my Randall #5 that was stolen over 30 years in a heartbeat.

As mentioned above Blackjack knives are currently made by Bark River. I own two Barkies, a Rogue and a Teddy, and a Blackjack Classic 125. They are all excellently made, strong and sharp.

You won't go wrong with either. Pick a design you like and place an order and in a week or two you'll have a great knife.

BTW the shipping from KnivesShipFree actually takes the same or shorter amount of time to deliver as CuttingEdgeKnives in Brisbane.

Considering that KSF ship for a flat $12US, that's amazing!

The shippping sure is great, but the only downside I guess is that it doesn't have signature confirmation. But then again I think there would be a option to upgrade?

whats cutting edge knives like? only ever looked at their store, their prices seem pretty high

Yep, you can save 25% by perchasing off the net. Pacific Bladewear in QLD are not to bad though.

I bought from cutting edge before I made the leap into international dealers. They have the best range in australia but they sure do charge a premium.

Consider the ESEE Junglas: $300AUD from CuttingEdge or $175USD (~$195AUD) from KSF.

It seems like benchmades are becoming rarer and rarer to find for sale from dealers in Aus. Cutting edge knives only have 3 listed, and I'm not sure if they are even in stock.

I guess with fixed blades, there isn't much motivation to buy local if the price is double compared to what you can get it for overseas.

EDIT: does pacific bladewear have a shop you can walk into? doesn't say anything about it on their website, they have one knife I'd be interested in buying.

I've met and dealt with Michael a couple of times. He's never gone back on a deal but can be slow to deliver = in stock on CEK does not necessarily mean in stock in Oz - could mean in stock at one of the distributors in USA he buys from. I am still waiting for delivery of a knife I ordered a couple of weeks back

With the current direction the various WLB's and ACS is heading I now prefer to buy my folders from Ron at Urban Conquest
