I don't know much about these knives so I have a question. I was looking at the PSK today and almost ordered one. However I wondered if It would be better to choose one with the A2 steel? If so what knife is in that size range but in A2 or is the steel in the PSK comparable? Thanks.

The only one I can think of in the same size ranger that is A2 is the Micro Canadian. Most Bark River fans will say the stainless is very comparable. On the other hand, I wish the PSK was A2 myself, But only because I prefer tool steel and the process of getting a patina on my blades. :D If you don't mind a little bigger I'd go with te Woodland, or my favorite small, the Huntsman.

I've owned BRKT in A2, 1095 (Adirondack skinner), and 12C27. All good steels. The A2 holds it's edge the best IMO.

As mentioned, if you really want he A2, go with the Mini Canadian. I personally would trust the PSK in 12C27 to do everything I needed it to do, except acquire a patina. ;)

i love the psk, it goes well with my bravo 1,matched green micarta

You can find out more on the bark river forum on knifeforums.com most of your questions can be answered there.

The value of the stainless 12C27 is that you can tuck the PSK into your mini-survival kit, drop that in your pack, BOB or vehicle, and know that the blade will be just fine when you need it.

If you're wanting a small EDC in A2, than either the Mikro- or Mini-Canadian is your knife.

They did a basic comparison of A-2 Vs. Sandvik 12C27 over at the BRKT Forum. Basically very little of it is surpising. 12C27 Doesn't hold an edge as long, but is easier to sharpen. Not exactly shocking....:D

I was impressed with the pictures demonstrating that 12C27 is every bit as durable as A2 though.
